It must be some odd form of Karma, but I got my taxes back today and I also got that little catalog that Campmor seems to put out every quarter. Anyone have any experience buying items from this place? Comments good or bad?

Yes. Campmor is a great place to order from. Before the Internet days, I used to mailorder from them all the time. I've had good experience and do recommend them (could easily have said to just go to our Gear Store, but Campmor really is good).

They are excellent. I've always been completely satisfied at their super service and everything ever purchased. I've phoned and had deep discussions on the details about the items I was interested in.

Campmor is a fantastic place. Good prices, good service. I've never had a problem.

I visited the retail store in Paramus, New Jersey ... it was *fantastic* !

I ordered from them recently through their website and was very pleased with the service. The items came sooner than they estimated and everything was perfect. I also signed up for "TrailMail" which is a weekly e-mail where they list all of their specials. If you don't mind one more piece of junk in your inbox a quick 30 second scroll down the page could tip you off to some sweet deals on seasonal gear and closeouts. Got the wife a pair of Acorn Polar Mocs for $15 or $20 (regularly $30).

Even though I've only done e-business with them, they still send me that cute little catalog which is sitting in my lunchbox right now. Time to drum up a wish list.....

Hey there Cal and Grace,
Now that you've studied the Campmor dream catalog, have that plump tax refund check in the bank and are getting the urge to head to the mountains this spring after this long/short (depends on your viewpoint) winter.

Q: What kind of new gear are you interested in acquiring this year!

I was thinking of getting those new Petzl headlamps for us along with one of those dog backpacks for our pooch. They do seem to have reasonable prices and lots of deals on off-season gear. Thanks everyone for your input!

Another vote for Campmor. I ordered from their website a few weeks ago, and shipment and delivery were fast. It only took a couple days for the item to arrive, and it was a great deal, too.
The only thing I did find was that if you watch sales in your area, you may be able to find certain things for less. For example, the helmets we bought this year were in the Campmor catalog for around $90, but I got mine for $65 thanks to a really great sale at a local ski shop. Most other things seemed to be reasonably priced though, and definitely less than regular prices.

Thanks for the link on dog packs. We bought our cocker spaniel one from Petco that was really cheap (in case she didn't like having a pack--then at least I would have only wasted $15 instead of $40+). It's neoprene with nylon mesh on the part that rests on the dog--but even though I used their size chart, it doesn't cinch down enough to really fit her. It also has a very small capacity. We plan on taking her backpacking with us this year, so I'd like to get her a pack that actually fits and is useful--but it's a little difficult when you're dealing with a relatively small (25lbs) dog. I'll have to check out those Kelty and Mountainsmith packs...
Thanks again!
