Date Skied: Saturday, Jan 22nd
Resort or Ski Area: Cannon
Conditions: PP, Powder
Trip Report: This is a few days late, but I'll share anyway.
Made a solo trip to Cannon on Saturday. I had good intentions of hitting the first tram, but was still happy when I pulled into the tram lot around 8:30a. The tram operator told us on the way that everything was 100% open, and the visibility was unlimited. This was a great improvement over my last trip to Cannon, where things were in rough shape and I couldn't see more than 50 feet. It was cold, -4 at the top, so I lapped the tram most of the morning. I stopped only to buy toe warmers and eventually to eat some lunch. Crowds weren't bad for a Saturday. I had a couple of laps in a row where I made it to the bottom and ran right onto the waiting tram. As it got warmer, and more crowded, later on I spent some time on the Summit Quad. Vista Way and Hardscrabble were left ungroomed, and skied pretty nicely. A lot of the trails off the Zoomer triple were ungroomed and pretty bumped up. Most everything else was nicely groomed and skied excellent. I didn't try Mittersill. I wasn't sure of the conditions, being a few days after only a few inches snow. From the tram you could see lines of skiers hiking up the access trail. Overall, an excellent day at Cannon.
