I seriously don't understand what all the fuss is about in revealing details of a "secret stash" over the net...

Do people really think it is truly a "secret"? Is the chance of more people getting into your "secret stash" really going to ruin your experience? Take into consideration the probabilities of everything having to align for the disclosure of such information to really have an impact on your experience....It really doesn't matter, especially considering only a small percentage of the ski/snowboard demographics want to ski/ride this type of terrain.

Ruin? No.

Degrade? Yes.

the information proliferates and compounds. Everybody who learns about it tells a few others and so on and so forth. And I think you will find the % of ski forum posters and lurkers who seek out this type of terrain a to be far higher than the general public.

This type of terrain used to generally only attract high quality skiers, because it was difficult to ski. Now every joe six pack has fat, lightweight, rockered skis to play with.

everybody wants to be hip to it, but few people want to do their own ground level reconnaissance.

I see this stash secret stuff as something that needs to be viewed on a case by case basis. Generally speaking, the less obvious a stash, or the lower capacity the stash, the worse it is to share online. Some of the stuff at cannon especially is really obvious although I'm sure there's plenty of stuff that is harder to find.

I think there are only two cases. East and West.

Out West there is way more terrain, more snow, etc. Stashes are usually clearly visible, and more dependent on ability or difficulty to access in terms of staying "good".

Back East though, with half the snowfall and freeze thaws, plus way more limited terrain, I consider it pretty poor form.

I could care less whether it's obvious or not. Why would I tell a complete stranger? It doesn't benefit me in any way. Come make some runs with me and I'll show people everything. I don't hoard off map stuff but I do like to limit the audience

I haven't dished on the internet about off map specifics either, but seeing people talking about obvious places isn't going to get me riled up.

Things that are obvious have a hard time being secret. That's all.

I sympathize with the ppl who cringed at this thread (even those who bumped it by replying to say how much they want it to vanish. :)

I personally would not start a thread like this, but I love when they pop up.
Map all that shit!!

Best glade at Cannon is to ski off the back and down to the Lafayette campground. Do it 4 or 5 times for a good work out.
