Gonna hit Cannon for the first time somewhere from Sat-Tue depending on weather. Any tips for a first timer with two teens - they enjoy glades if not too tight and steep.

First time skiers at Cannon should always hike the saddle. Go to the summit and ski down Taft Slalom keeping up speed to ski part way up hill the saddle. Hike up the saddle, the connector trail that goes over to Mittersill and ski down to the top of Mittersill. Ski down Baron's Run to the bottom of Mittersill. Skiers have been taking this historic route since the 1930's. Visit the New England Ski Museum next to the Tram Station. A lot of the glades at Cannon are pretty tight and steep. There are some easy ones at the Tuckerbrook area and Turnpike Glade is easy-but short. Lakeview Glade would be good too. A top to bottom run I like is Taft Slalom-Upper Hardscrabble-Short Fuse-Lower Hardscrabble-Turnpike-Lower Ravine. If you boot up at your car, the lots right next to the Brookside trail work really well. See my post on page 143 about a good run from the Peabody lift.

I'm guessing glades wont be skiing too well given the forecast but Turnpike glade is probably worth checking out. Cannon trees are tight mostly.

Ask around (ski patrol) if the Tuckerbrook backcountry ski trail is skiing well. I haven't done it this year, so I'm not sure how the snow pack is. If you are able to spot a car at the trailhead it makes a great last run of the day. It starts on the connector trail about a 1/3 of the way down, after you hike up the saddle. It's about a two mile run down to the trail head in Franconia where you spot the car.

Can anyone give insight to Idiots Delight and Candyland? Completely missed their entrances my first time this week at Mittersill.

Take skyline down and at the big corner right as it flattens the entrance is right there. Also other entrance to the left along the catrack. You can also sneak in at the top of the race trail just skirt around the fence by the gatehouse and follow the tracks

Unfortunately not really getting to explore Cannon as I would have liked as it is super slick with Mittersill, Tram and all Glades closed. Best conditions by far are the runs off the Zoomer lift so mostly skiing those. Probably will check out Waterville tomorrow instead of another day at Cannon. Wish I had flipped the order of my days. Forecast for Franconia looked warm enough to soften, but Mt itself is much colder.

A decent amount of prayer is involved in getting down most of the runs off Peabody. Not that they are hard runs, just that you can't turn. Especially a problem with my kids. Understand why they closed yesterday. Beautiful setting to see and ski at least

Cannon didn’t even open yesterday because of the conditions.
Yeah, Cannon has a lot of bad weather and rough conditions.

rode up south yesterday with a couple cannon pass holders who showed up, found it closed then drove to loon and bought tickets. morning was absolutely brutal, UWB was about as boilerplate as anything I ever skied, should not have been open, have to imagine cannon was as bad if not worse. twitcher and jobber softened up midday and were decent after lunch.

next weekend is looking spectacular.

Waterville is completely excellent today - soft snow everywhere and nice coverage in glades. No lift lines and nobody has even scanned my RFID. Not sure if Cannon recovered but happy with the choice I made. Driving back to NJ tonight.

I also noticed they weren't scanning anyone's RFIDs when I was there in late February.

very light scanning at both cannon and waterville when i went

i'm struggling with the very first world problem of where to ski this weekend. i am in gorham thurs and fri night, and white river junction saturday night. i'd like to get up to loaf or saddleback Friday but am a bit concerned they wont warm enough to corn. sunday river should be primo but i'd like to get further north/bigger vert. cannon and waterville are in consideration for saturday when moving back towards white river junction. sugarbush is also in consideration for saturday but would be out of the way. then k v magic v stratton consideration for sunday.
