Don't forget restricting the # tickets sold, hell of a business model.
As for RFID you are right it was mid oct, and it was the lowest bid.
The business model is to create a decent ski experience vs grabbing quick cash. As a passholder I appreciate that approach even though I'm mostly weekdays. Holiday weeks are tolerable unlike other competitors.

Random thoughts on the season:
  • They won a lot of fans with the late snowmaking.
  • The front 5 were outstanding when the zoomer chair was fixed.
  • I love the idea of restricting the # tickets sold. Vail should try that with passes.
  • Covid $$ tends to get pissed away, at least skiers get to use a new tram.
  • It would be nice to see the mittersill double run more frequently.

That period the Zoomer chair went down was great. T2B laps on the tram finished with deep snowmaking and low traffic on the front was the best!

LiftBlog reports that we can expect an announcement on the Tram on July 7th. The source is the notes from the recent CMAC meeting on May 8th. I am attaching it below. Also of interest is the Committee's concern that Vail is NOT accurately reporting Epic Pass redemptions at Sunapee and want to verify those numbers.

^^^ This would be cool, could be a good reason to take the tram. Hard to believe Cannon feels the need to spend this much money, butt we have to keep up with the Jones's. :( If all of the other big mountains in New England go the way of American Skiing Co. and Cannon is the last standing (because it's backed by the state;) does that make it a good business move? At this point we don't know.

A few other details from the CMAC notes jumped out

• Scored high marks with sell-outs on many weekends to offer great experience
• Could’ve handled another 200 per day and do not plan to impose sell-outs next year
• Mittersill Double will be targeted this summer for full assessment and upgrades
• Staffing challenges have had a massive impact upon our ops, revenue, and expense
• Half a ski school staff meant that we had to cut half of our programs
• Half a lift ops staff had us running at roughly 60-70% lift capacity
• One third of a snowmaking staff put us behind on the calendar and Mother Nature backed us up by a month AND caused us to make snow for 2,000 hours rather than the usual 1400-1500

The mittersil double is one of their newest lifts if not newer than the detachable. cannonball should be looked at...

The more uphill capacity, the faster the mountain gets skied off. I am 100% against limiting tickets per day. Sunday River. Attitash, Loon and Cranmore are right there. If you want your own private ski area buy the land and build it out. The ticket sales should be determined by the market. If the parking lots are full and the walk to the lodge is too long people will go elsewhere.

Glad to see Cannon is investing in the mountain even if they didn't take my idea to run a tram over to the cone of Mt. Lafayette (Which there is no way they could ever get approved). BUTT, sometimes it's good to push the envelope when planning.

Since they do not plan to impose sell-outs next year, It will be interesting to see how the lift system will handle the extra crowds on weekends.

Bill to spend $25 million for a new tram clears and NH Senate and will be considered in the budgeting process debate.

Not all the way to the finishline yet, but this is a substantial hurdle to clear towards a new tram at Cannon in the coming years
This article is from February and I read today Sununu passed a budget. Was the tram bill approved in the budget? Seems to have complete bipartisan support.

My bad!

Lets try this link from today.

Ammended and approved with the budget that was signed by Sununu yesterday. $18 million for "mantenance and operations" of the Tram, not a full replacement in the coming years

“Originally proposed at $25 million in SB55, the outlay was cut to $18 million with the passage of HB2. Rather than a full replacement, the project is expected to reuse certain components from the current lift.”
