This weekend is Reggae at Sugarloaf, so just plan accordingly. I have a lot of fond memories of 100% open awesome spring skiing during past festivals. You can hear the bands waft uphill as you rip the corn. People are there to party so it isn’t usually too busy on the trails, especially off the beaten track. But I’ve seen some crazy parking on those days, reaching down past the Rack…

Im heading up to Sugarloaf tomorrow. Parking is my only worry this weekend. Given the wind forecasted for Friday morning I'm not sure if I'll be rushing out early. Then again, I dont wanna park at the Rack...

Idk I'm a pretty happy customer. I have no problem with his mgmt skills. He is grass roots and will bump chairs if need be.

Feels like the salty, unqualified and passed over former GM candidate is back griping again.

Cannon got a pretty raw deal weather wise. In a season where everyone had some sort of challenge with the weather the Franconia area experienced a especially down year (Easton and Franconia proper were basically bare ground all winter), so I think it is expected that revenue would be down somewhat.

I found Cannon to be be much better groomed than most say. Every time I get there in the AM the groomers are still working hard. They get a bum rap. They groom a lot of tough, steep terrain that sees a lot of sun.
Contrast that with Boring Woods "#1 ranked grooming team" that I find to be way overrated. They only groom easy greens and leave almost half of the blues ungroomed. They leave 3/4ths of the blacks ungroomed. If you took a test and skipped all the tough questions you would ace it too.

Yep, the Cannon grooming folks run the cats right up until the opening line forms. A lot of times they have to to have a skiable hill. They seem to leave well enough alone, so the moguls get bigger until they melt and go out to the ocean. I think because they're state employees they behave better.

Mother nature saved the season not cannon management....& yes while the past 10 weeks have been pretty darn good, you folks have short memories; Cannon closed 3 days during xmas vacation week when all the moola is spent. They struggled to get the upper mountain going and then had significant and untimely lift issues, at least some which could have been avoided, and boy do they hate skiers using the tram at Cannon, god forbid. Administratively the new RFID system was barely installed for the season opener, heck I don't think they chose a vendor until mid-October. Utility costs were projected to rise about 100k.....If management is so great, why wasn't RFID/lift maintenance done in the off season & why didn't Cannon negotiate better electric rates with an alternate supplier, we knew for months Eversource rates would double?
Don't worry folks government will save us! Its looking like $25million in COVID money will buy our new tram, I'd like a new tram, but heck tell me how a new tram is connected to covid relief?

That said, the last few weeks almost cleared that nonsense from my memories......looking to next season now !

I'll agree it was not the greatest early on but my two areas this winter were Cannon and wildcat. Cannon gets my money next year and wildcat does not.
Alot of issues with Cannon can be mended with competitive pay for the workers. That's more on the state than the management.

That 9th inning snowmaking assault made me happy.

TRUE, I'm a grump but I was pleased and surprised at the last snowmaking push, it was a big help . Perhaps the silver lining is Cannon has been bleeding money for some time despite fancy accounting, if it was private it would have been sold or closed long ago. Have a great summer everybody!

Don't forget that Cannon gets the Vail lease money from Sunapee. I don't know the dollar figure, but I am sure it helps pay bills and has been used in the past for capital improvements. AS far as using Covid funds for the new tram everyone and there brother headed to the hills back when Covid first appeared. Just trying to accomidate them.

Don't forget restricting the # tickets sold, hell of a business model.
As for RFID you are right it was mid oct, and it was the lowest bid.
