Conditions: ice, ,mashed potatoes on ice, firm base with usual spring mush
Report:
Came in for 1/2 day - started skiing at about 12:00. Most of the stuff on top of the mountain was just different variations of ice, blue patches, wide sheets of white ice. I was told by others that in the morning the upper part of the mountain was not even opened. The few hours of warmth did some good, so it was opened at the time I was there (Tramway, Upper Cannon, Skylight, etc.). Profile was ropped off.
On the upper trails, for the most part, had enough edgable/ loose snow to make some turns and scrub speed but it was not fun (at least for me).
Lower part of the moutain was significantly better - mashed potatoes on edgable base, with some ice here and there - no big deal. Real fun was on trails off the Zoomer chair. Good moguls (and sufficently soft) on the right side of Rocket, Zoomer and Paulie's. Spent most of time doing the yo-yo on that chair.
It's really too bad that this terrain (and chair) is so short. That's one aspect of that mountain that is really frustrating about Cannon. The mountain looks like one big, bad ass place, yet many times the best skiing is limited to just a few slopes at the lower 1/3 part of it.
Over all, I'm glad I went, but I was disapointed by conditions of the majority of the trails. I really was hoping it was going to be a bit softer. Oh well, the mountains need to go through a few freeze thaw cycles for corn to start showing up.
