Winnchill works for www.snowforecast.com They exclusively are focused on higher elevation weather. The forecasts that most people see are for those in the flatlands (where the market is.) These people take Upslope into consideration, a big factor.

That, plus the NWS mountain and recreation forecasts for the higher summits do a pretty good job at sizing things up.

Yup, as a weather junkie of course I've always been highly tuned in to those. And that's what I'm talking about. They have been missing the ball big time this season so far. snowforecast is a great case in point. I'm not trying to dog on Winn since he's always done a great job and contributed a lot to this forum. But for the past several weeks their forecasts have been off in significant ways that really effect the decision making of powder chasers. So who else is there?

Doesn't NOAA have a high peaks forecast? https://www.facebook.com/UpstateSnow They mostly do snow predictions for mountains.

I'm not bragging guys but I'm usually very good when it comes to Cannons weather having lived there during winter weekends for almost 35 years. After I saw that Cannon was showing windholds yeasterday it perplexed me.As I stated many times the south wind is the only wind that is usually an issue. With a Nor'easter yesterday I didn't expect south winds however, there was actually 1 storm to the west reforming and transfering its energy to another on the coast.when I watched the sat it was clear to see both with the western low spinning itself almost due north towards Cannon with the new low spinning northeast winds towards Maine.Pretty unique setup that caught me off guard.Really all you have to do to see if Cannon will have high winds is watch the radar/sat and see if the direction is headed north. The south wind will bloooow.

I agree with Cannonball. The predictions have not been all that close. All services were predicting 5-9 overnight at Cannon and winds out of the N NE in the afternoon. Winds were out of the South and gusting to 50mph at least and 1" of snow. I did not think there would any wind holds either with the forecast. Oh well, came home and worked and saved the ppl day.
