SOUTH EGREMONT, Massachusetts — The Northeastern snowstorm of the past weekend left Catamount Ski Area, in the Berkshires, with a foot of new snow. National Weather Service forecasts indicate more snow this week. So what do you do, if you're a ski area?

You make more snow, of course. And that's what Catamount is doing. By this weekend, according to resort staff, Catamount will be wide open with all major runs available to skiers and riders.

"Conditions are terrific right now," said Catamount General Manager Bill Gilbert. "And it looks like the weather this weekend will be wonderful, with temperatures in the high 20s and lower 30s. This could be the weekend skiers and riders have been waiting for."

The resort's halfpipe opens Wednesday, and Catamount's operations team has continued to add elements to the resort's terrain park.

Catamount is also now offering advanced skiers and riders the best challenge in the Berkshires: the double-diamond Catapult trail, which is one of the steepest runs in New England.

Saturday night, the resort will also offer its Mountain Dew Rock and Ride Ski Party, with night skiing on the mountain and DJ music in the base lodge.
