Announced today in the Kingston DailyFreeman, signs of cooperation between the ski areas in the Catskills to attract skiers. Wow who would have thought that would ever happen. Cooperation between neighbors is great to see.

Anyone seen these new signs?

How about "United Ski Areas of the Catskill Mountains" Kind of catchy hey.

I predict eventually larger ski areas will actually invest in increasing the number skier/rider customers rather than just steal customers away from their competition like Vermont. Large ski areas will need wise up and purchase small feeders ski areas near large metropolitan areas like NYC to a promote learning to ski and ride for the first time. Once they learn to ski at the intermediate level then the next step is give them a couple free rides to the large mountain to show them how great the sport of skiing and riding is. I know know. Its easier to just steal customers away from your competitors like Vermont. Then again Vermont has been stealing skiers and riders from the Catskill resorts for years. What goes around comes around. NY even provides those nice interstate roads so the folks can get to the Vermont resorts.

intrawest did it with mountain creek and peak with jack frost/big boulder. i get some silly discounts at stratton with my mc pass
Good point. When I am skiing out west I am always amazed at how many people on the chair lift tell me the learned to ski at Hunter, Belleayre, or Windham. I also get a few that said the learned to ski at Sterling Forest (Tuxedo Ridge), Mt Peter, and Holiday, which are even closer to NYC. Nashoba Valley ski area just outside Boston is also a great feeder ski area.

The good news here is the Catskill resorts have stop fighting each other and are working together for a common cause. They could be a force to be reconed with.

I love cooperation between ski areas. If Camelback would team with someone up north it would in all likelyhood drive me to go there. Peak almost bought them when they end up buying BB/JF. I just might go up to the Catskills for a day this coming week.

Hunter & Belleayre rock! Also, saw those signs last weekend going to and from Burlington to pick up my daughter at UVM -- they do make you think... good strategy!
