OK, double post, but what the hell. Friend and I went up to the Dartmouth Ski Way which is 20 mins from my place and scoped it out. Nice place. Out of the way, but not too far out. The set-up is unusual in that the road runs through the middle of it...with one ski area on one side and another on the other  Must make for some interesting moments!
New lodge, fixed-grip quad on one side, HKD snowmaking towers, and a double that goes up some gnarly stuff on the Holt's Ledge Mountain...that's where we hiked.
We took Papoose up most of the way, ducking into some of the Upper Blues in the Middle of the trail map before making it to the top. The terrain was narrow and old fashioned. Great fall colors. The view off of the very summit, which is a dramatic cliff, is incredible...especially with the fog and rain clouds lifting up over the mountains and then falling back into the valley.
We scoped out the old Hall Double before heading back down to the bottom via the Don Worden Schuss, which is their main race trail. The trail map doesn't do it justice...steep upper headwall with some complex pitches. And that trail Waterfall? Nasty, real nasty pitch that is narrow and probably bumped up in the winter. These two trails kind of flirt with the cliff/ledges on the Eastern side of the mountain. Good snowmaking it appears. Man, this run looked sweet as did the liftline.
The lodge is brand new, but we were perplexed regarding the Hall Double on this side of the mountain  I say perplexed because the base terminal is in the process of being re-engineered or removed and yet they were able to keep the line in place and much of the chairs on the line by simply 'tying it off' at tower 3 or so using a giant winch
Some C-Tec Doppelmayr sheaves and pylons were onsite but not in place...looks like they are planning on putting in a base terminal that requires only three pylons--two uphill and one in the rear, so maybe this model or the PDF version of the info or possibly another model such as the base terminal of Killington's Canyon Quad, but I'm thinking more that we'll see the former in place this season.
Does anyone have any info on this work? Nothing on the Dartmouth site. :-?
