For $350 I could get a Chromebook with an Atom processor, 16GB hard drive, and limited functionality OS, or a laptop with an AMD Bobcat-based processor, 250GB hard drive, and fully functioning OS. Hmmm, which would I go for...

Ok, now I don't feel so bad. I set up a wireless access point a few weeks ago to help the AirPort Express range when connecting to the network. I'm glad to see I'm handily out-nerded here.

I've got a DNS-323 which I like. I have (2) 1.5tb drives in RAID 1 for redudancy.

It's actually just an enclosure. You buy typical hard drives and just drop them in.
