That's unusual.
They may just anticipate no business.

It's a safety thing. You don't want your staff out there in the extreme cold and you don't paying customers getting into trouble....

Stowe is not offering weekend night skiing this year. It was never profitable. Good gimmick though.

I heard that some of the reason is that the new condo owners don't like the lights. As to profitability, not sure...they've been doing it for a loooonnnnnngggg time. Since 1990 or so.

I am the coordinator of a high school after-school ski and ride program and I got the call from BV this morning that night skiing is canceled tonight, Thurs. and Friday. It's too darn cold. Last week it was 15 degrees with a 20 to 30 mph wind blowing up the mountain and I saw a couple of kids come in with big patches of white on there cheeks. If they did not cancel than I was going to. I'd rather be safe than sorry!

Bolton gets really cold at night, and with the daytime temps today, I imagine it would have been really cool up there tonight. I've rarely been "really warm" up there nightskiing. (used to go in high school and college every thursday)

Seriously? I hear so many stories, along with my own experiences of skiing at -20, -10, especially in Maine. A different management mentality?

I was in Canmore in Dec last year and they also closed some of the resorts, but I thought it was something about the lifts not working right in those temps. It was -25, -35, -45 on the first three days.

When I was learning to ski at Hidden Valley NJ lo those many years ago I remember "frostbite warning" nights when the lifties wouldn't let you on but sent you to the lodge if you showed early signs of frostbite on your face.

Tough mofos in Joisey, what can I say.

Just read that Bolton Valley is not hosting night skiing (open during the day), due to freezing temps, any other area doing the same?

Camelback used to only have certain lifts open on cold days so everybody was close to the lodge..they were looking out for their customers safety while cutting their operating expenses..weaksauce since it was like 12 degrees..

Just got back from night skiing at Shawnee. It is -12 as I walked in the door. The skiing was awesome but there seemed to be a lot less racers tonight. Maybe they just left after the runs in the course?

I read that Bolton Valley canceled night skiing due to concerns that if there was a lift malfunction they didn't feel they could get people off with out major complications. To me that seems reasonable.

They actually mentioned on Bloomberg Radio this morning that some areas in VT and NH were closing due to cold.

Of course, they didn't mention that it was Bolton Valley, and night skiing. That's not quite dramatic enough.
