I really like the people of Minneapolis and surrounding Minnesota. They really get into winter. I spent last weekend there. The people and I are of one mind. It got into the 30's Saturday and everybody was commenting about how "hot" it was. Nobody was hopefully whining about "spring must be just around the corner.
Sunday morning in the city, everyone was outside. Playing serious hockey on the pond (lines marked, snowpiles for buttress), ice skating, winter kite festival, ice castle, snow sculpting (awesome), really impressive snow and awesome Snow sculpting, tons of runners (amazingly they all jogged on sidewalks, not in the street!), US Pond Hockey Championships,
The Kiteboarding on the frozen lake was wicked cool. You slide across the ice on your boots. These dudes were really moving fast, tearing downwind for about a mile!
Parks and Recreation doesn't go into hibernation. There are a lot of fun things to do in the winter.
Makes New England look like dullsville.
My host was giving me a tour about town, and thought it was getting a bit too hot at 35F, so she opened the sunroof on her car. Nice!
Coupled with the super-friendly people, it's my kind of place. Too bad the hills are only 400 feet vertical!
