Well I havent been on here in a while, because I have been too depressed that I cant ski anymore, so hello to all of you I talked with and skied with this year.

Second I was accepted into Marist College for next year. I have been going to the local comunity college, but am transfering over. I am in the Criminal Justice program.

The real reason for my post here is that I am super exited that they have a ski team. It is not a Varsity sport, but a supported club so it is not as competative. I have wanted to try racing for a long time but have been unable to. This will give me a great oppertunity to try.

What division do they race in? My Alma Mata had a "club" ski team as well but competed in the Thompson Division which fielded full varsity programs along side many "club" teams. I enjoyed it because you could be as competitive as you wanted to be but didn't need to worry about some of the dynamics the varsity teams had going for them. My College racing days are when I turned over from being a perennial intermediate to having the tool set to take my skiing ability to the next level. If you have good coaches, you'll likely receive thousands of dollars worth of lessons for whatever the club fees are, let alone a ton of days on the slopes and having lots of other folks to ski with. You can't go wrong. Have fun!

Marist is a member of the USCSA (United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association). It is a nationwide organization with conferences along the east coast as well as the west coast and rocky mountains. Marist competes in the Eastern Conference in the McBrine Division. All of our races are against the other McBrine schools, except the Eastern Regionals where we also compete with other divisions including the Thompson and MacConnell Divisions. Below are the other schools of the Eastern Conference.

Congradulations! I've heard great things about Marist.

Shame really, you're going to ruin it for them and all....

The thing about ski racing is that it's both a team sport and an individual sport. Whether it's UVM or Marist how good you get depends on you and basically the sky is the limit. I have found that there are some great coaches in the small college ranks. You will have alot of fun and it will make you a better overall skier. Congrats, good luck and keep us posted.

Congratulations on going to college at Marist. The dean of the law school I work in got her undergraduate degree at Marist. I hope your education allows you to accomplish a lot of great things. Good luck on school...and on skiing!

Interesting that none of the D-1 teams (Middlebury, Dartmouth, UVM Varsity) are in this league...

You also know that being in College doesn't mean that skiing is over. In fact, if you are near a night ski area, there is time for that. Weekends and afternoons when there are no classes are good for skiing as well. I have always been able to pull good grades and ski a lot. In fact, the two go hand in hand because it forces me to manage my time well and get stuff done.

None of the D1 teams are in those leagues because it is not a D1 league except MacConnell. MacConnell division has the best racers out of the three divisions but they couldn't touch Middlebury, Dartmouth, UVM, etc. that are competitors for the best in the country. When I raced in Thompson, I would estimate only 60% of the racers even had suits. I never bothered with the expense myself, but that was the level of competition within that division with exception of the top four Colleges. It is serious racing for sure with standard meeting FIS course setups, but it certainly wasn't anything close to D1 with exception of MacConnell.

O I know that. This past year was my third year in college. 1 year of generic classes and 2 of Criminal Justice. The spring semester I went to school tues/thurs, and managed to get in 30 days, only 5 or so being weekends. This is with a 1.25-1.5 hour drive 1 way.
