Not to seem like I'm giving Charlie a hard time or anything (I'm not), but my recommendation to fellow users on this forum and others is to link to external stories rather than copy-and-paste, in order to conform to US copyright law. Of course, if Charlie got advance permission from the Monitor to reprint that story, I take all of that back.

We've run into these problems before ourselves at FTO. In essence, websites including the Monitor's depend upon advertising support, and advertising is generally sold on a cost-per-impression or cost-per-click basis these days. Ratios for both are a direct factor of site traffic. Reprinting a story here deprives that entity of any potential financial benefit for their work, even though to Charlie's credit he did identify the source. Doing so, however, doesn't alleviate the problem that I'm describing here. Linking to the story actually improves the copyright owner's traffic level and potential revenue, and still shares the story with other AZ users.

Charlie, please don't feel like I'm publicly singling you out, for I'm not. I just wanted to take the opportunity to more broadly educate the group as a whole, for many folks aren't aware of this. I recently encountered a situation on another online forum where one of our stories was reprinted without even the attribution, and the response I received from many users over there was that they weren't aware of the implications of unauthorized reprinting.

Of course, if Greg disagrees with me, y'all can just tell me to go pound salt (or stand out in this miserable niar that we're receiving right now!). It's his house here, after all.

Yes. I agree completely with Marc, especially now that we also run a News section on this site. Please post just the link. Thanks!
