Boyne might, it could be a reincarnation of Booth's glory days. I can see Triple Peaks getting in here to get Sunapee a NH sister.

hmmmmm

Booth Creek has slowly been moving to stay out west, when they sold Loon most of the money they gained went to Northstar, since then almost all their spending money has gone to Northstar (New Village, Mountain Expansion, RITZ-CARLTON, and more slope side condominiums). I think it may be likely that the money from cranmore will go to Tahoe. Or is it slightly possible for the money from Cranmore to go into Waterville? Highly unlikely, I think Booth Creek is trying to get out of the east for good. I do hope someone who will really care for Waterville Valley buys the place.

Having skied the last couple of seasons at both Northstar and Sierra as well as Waterville and Cranmore I tend to agree. Looking at the state of these 4 areas their priorities become clear. Booth Creek no longer appears interested in doing business here.

Here's the Deal

Kathy Bennett, official spokesperson for Cranmore Mountain here. To respond to some of the posts here:

1. The Threedom Pass is not "in shambles." We are already selling them for next season and the program is intact with Bretton Woods and Waterville Valley.

2. As someone pointed out, this is not a "lease back" arrangement with CNL. The principals of Jininy Peak bought Cranmore with financial from CNL. Cranmore is not owned by Jiminy Peak nor CNL. It is owned by Brian and Tyler Fairbank and Joe O'Donnell. Cranmore is its own entity.

3. Waterville Valley is still owned by Booth Creek.

4. This is inideed good news. Not sure why anyone would think it is "horrible" that millions are about to be put into the resort.

5. Here is what we are doing in the short term in terms of improvements: http://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...mprovements-under-new-ownership-96649854.html

6. The immediate plan is to make improvements to the lifts, snow making and lodges, plus the addition of a Mountain Coaster. The current plans are not calling for condos or for expanding terrain.

7. Our goal is to become the premiere resort for families in the region and that means we are putting our efforts into building a new children's center, improving lift access to our existing learning terrain, and expanding our learning terrain.

8. We are installing another 70 tower guns, once again doubling our inventory of snowguns.

Stay tuned at cranmore.com for the latest news, plus photos and videos of the improvements as they are happening!

Thank you for weighing in Kathy

ditto.

Two links I received from my team leader at Jiminy today:

http://www.onthesnow.com/news/12/a/12404/jiminy-peak-operators-acquire-cranmore-mountain-resort
http://www.berkshireeagle.com/local/ci_15313996

The most genius thing Brian did at Jiminy was to build the lodge and other base buildings with condos on the top floor(s). The codo sales paid for the building and the maintenance fees pay the upkeep (can you say ZERO overhead??)

From the articles it appears the community has plenty of bed base to support the additional activities planned.

Thanks Kathy, great job Greg at getting indistry reps on the site. Kathy ,I hope you coinsider a seeded mogul run run on the improved free style terrain. Moguls are the root of freestyle please throw us a bone. I'm a former threedom pass holder and current Loon season pass holder but the moguls at Loon are horrible.

Terrain variety is always top of mind - we may not have the biggest vertical drop but we have added moguls and terrain features and I agree moguls make things more intersting. Nothing sweeter than Koessler once the sun starts hitting the bumps. Yum! Warp Daddy, please visit us this winter - we are underestimated. Once we get folks here they always say it skis bigger than it looks.

Out of curiosity how much added uphill capacity will the quad give over the double its replacing?

Only reason I ask is that side of the mountain tends to get a bit crowded on busy weekends since its a funnel/easiest way down from the summit.

new quad

Out of curiosity how much added uphill capacity will the quad give over the double its replacing?

Only reason I ask is that side of the mountain tends to get a bit crowded on busy weekends since its a funnel/easiest way down from the summit.

MEFF, the simplest answer is that the new fixed grip quad will be double the capacity of the existing fixed grip double in place now on the South Slope. I can't tell you how many skiers per hour exactly that is but it will be twice as much.

We timed lift lines last winter on the south and we know on the busiest days you could wait 30 minutes to get on the South. A lot of that was our general public skiing on that slope but it also was the core slope and lift used by our ski school. With the new quad and by moving the double over to the new learning area, it will not only increase capacity on the South, it will also move a lot of bodies over to another area of the mountain (ski school customers).

When we timed lift lines on the high speed quad on a busy day, its wait time never approached that of the South double (half as much). We don't anticipate the new quad and the moved double will impact the lift lines on the HSQ as those skiers on the south generally aren't ready to go to the summit.

Thanks for the questions, keep 'em coming!

Though it is old school and beloved, any word as to when the aging East Bowl Double will see renovation/replacement?

They should replace the East Bowl with the old ski mobiles.

It's high time I return to Cranmore. Cranmore was my first 'big' mountain experience. After spending one season learning at Ward Hill and then going up there the place was HUGE to me as an 8 year old. My family also visited a couple of summers when the Volvo tennis tournament used to be held there. I'm sure I'd enjoy myself.

.....and current Loon season pass holder but the moguls at Loon are horrible.

What makes them horrible? Location, bump formation or how they got skied in? Last season, I had some midweeks off and was tempted to go to loon but opted for other places.

All of the above.First,Loons core skiers are intermediate to low advanced weekenders from Mass. That group does not lend itself for good bump formation.Second,Loon pretty much mows everything down except Triple Trouble(hardly ever open).Flume has the best/most bumps and they do seed them.

I think it would be really good business to bring back a modernized skimobile. You could use detatchable grip technology and make on & off painless. Not exactly on-budget but it would restore the icon and create a ton of off-season business.
