Crotched Mountain – Bennington New Hampshire
20's - Cloudy
With the rain we had on Friday I expected conditions that wouldn’t warrant buying a ticket, however the Trail Conditions at Crotched were very good.
All the main trails were open and in good condition all day long and consisted of groomed hard-packed snow including some ice spots and granular here and there. Their snowmaking has made up for a lack of cold winter snowfall. Although there were some paths of snow available to ski through, the glade trails are in need of natural snow.
They have expanded the Terrain Park from the middle trail to the westerly trail, leaving plenty of room for recreational skiing as well as trick skiing. With the chair on the left side of the trail, watching the daredevils throw their spins and flips on the right side was entertaining.
Based on my conversations with people on the lifts, there was a nice and enthusiastic mix of locals and weekenders from NYC, RI, CT, & MA. For many of the weekenders it was their first visit to the mountain and they appeared surprised to learn that it was only the mountains 2nd year of operation.
The 6-hour pass is very affordable and convenient and even with the parking lots full, there was no lift line waiting and the football game was on in the lodge. Overall I heard not one complaint and everyone appeared glad they selected Crotched.
