Trip Report:

This was my second time to Crtotched since its reopening. This was also the quickest trip to the mountain after deciding to look at Mapquest. If you are coming from the I-91 area, take exit 3 in Brattleboro (route 9 way). This was quicker than taking the 101 route as I did a few years back. If you take 9, you will go past the Granite Gorge ski area which was open for day and night skiing.

I arrived early so I decided to hit the EMS factory store on 202 which is just a few miles down the road from the rt 31 / 47 you need to take to head to Crotched.

When I arrived around 9:45 the lot was not to crowded. The first lift I took was the summit quad. For a fixed grip quad it moved at a good clip, faster than Butternut’s quads that I was on last weekend. The first run down was the Galaxy Trail. There was plenty of snow, no scratchy surfaces, just perfect conditions.

I did get the opportunity to hike to the former unloading area of the old lift and ski down a “future expansion” trail. This was was also a first for me as I had never hiked to “earn my turns” and also ski a “back country” type trail with nothing but deep powder. It was a blast!

Normally I skip the lodge and eat on the way home. Even though Crotched’s lodge looks utilitarian from the outside, it is warm and inviting inside. The eating area is a large open space concept with plenty of tables and chairs. The place is bright and does not have that musty smell and is not around 90 degrees inside. The food is also some of the best that I had at a ski area. You have to try the French fries.

I think next season I may upgrade my Mount Snow pass to include Crotched and Attitash. It was a great day of skiing and I posted some pictures below.
