Today i was skiing on a closed trail to cut over to another open one and skied over a rock. I have a descent sized scratch on the bottom of my ski but how deep does it have to be for something to be done about it right away?

Past the black base- you need to see some new wild stuff besides the black base material.
Prob. just get them re-waxed and it will be all good.

What, those bases aren't good? I though those nice long holes in the base would give me more stability.

No, mang, it's to create turbulance to slow your landing after you throw down that 1080 tail grab across that gap jump....

No core? No problem.

Just be careful about deep gouges near the ski edge...if you've got a hole there, it becomes possible to catch a solid object in the gouge and separate the edge from the ski, which makes the rest of the ski day quite interesting. (Although it would be pretty rare to get a sufficiently deep gouge for this purpose without getting through the base material anyhow, I'm pretty sure that's what happened to one of the edge on my last pair of skis.)
