Hi,
I'm going to Stowe next week.
Are there decent, professional rental shops around Stowe?

I always found Pinnacle to be the best overall ski shop in town.

Agree. They are fast, competent and convenient. Good place for demos AND a good place to outfit the family with just regular gear. I've been taking my family there for 10 years, and me, demos for 15. They are also the closest shop to the mountain and are open late, which is nice, no wasting time on a ski day.

The guys ski Stowe every day. Don't forget to ask what's good and what's not. They're not shy and you won't get a straighter answer on or off piste. Drive around back for rentals. It's faster for loading.

that said, I don't think there are any bad shops in town.

I agree also w/ Pinnacle. When it comes to soft goods, I have to say AJ's has everyone beat. Patagonia, Arcetryx, Cloudveil, MH, etc... I am a gear snob and do like those brands. I won't pay their rate, but find deals online.
