I was at Jay today and noticed that about half of the chairs from the Flyer were in the storage barn and the remaining chairs were more spaced out than usual. At the end of the day they started putting chairs back onto the lift. Anyone know the strategy behind this? There was no need for the extra capacity today but why put in the effort to remove the chairs? Thanks for any insight!

I've noticed this before too...and I'm stumped too. The only reasoning I can think of is this:

why put in the effort to remove the chairs

If maintenance dictates that the chairs ALL be put away at night, Jay might have saved itself some work by not putting as many chairs on. After all... --->
There was no need for the extra capacity

But that assumes they store the chairs at night rather then leave them out.

O well...thats my 2 cents :dunce:

I would think it would make sense to run as many chairs as you need. If theres not a lot of people run fewer chairs. I would think it would be more efficient but i dunno how much the extra weight/drag really matters. I know some places that have gondolas take the cabins off every night to protect em...i've seen them do that before and it was very quick and smooth operation didn't look hard to do at all.

A couple of reasons: Less chairs on the line-less to put away. Fewer chairs on the line, less lateral wind load on the haul rope=less chance of wind hold. Fewer chairs on the line=less engergy consumption.

Also consider by putting the chairs away they don't corrode in the weather and you get a dry, clean seat the next AM.

Interesting, I never would have thought they put the chairs away every night. It does make some sense though.

BTW, welcome to the forums ismellanadventur! :D
