So I’m reading a lot how NH ski mountains are icy and not much fun. Originally I was planning on heading to cannon Saturday for the first visit of the year. Then I heard that VT may be the place to be. I haven’t been to a large mountain all year (minus Bretton Woods) so I feel as though Id like to treat myself to some great conditions and a day full of fun. I normally ski at some family mountains (loon, Bretton Woods, pats peak, wachuset) but im flying solo this weekend and would like to have a great time with some larger mountains. Is VT really the place to be? How about Maine (Sunday River, or sugarloaf) or (sugar bush, stowe, jay peak in VT) if you had not been skiing at any of the 5 mentioned and were going skiing this Saturday where would you go?

If you are looking for groomed cruisers, Sunday River will fit the bill with fairly decent surface conditions last weekend. If you want natural ungroomed terrain, Northern Vermont would be a better bet.

There looks to be a Southern New England snowstorm on friday with possibly heavier snows at Mount Snow, Stratton, Mount Sunapee, etc. So you might want to wait and see what this storm does to help soften up the ungroomed terrain.

I make the trip to Sunday River every weekend from Nashua. If we have some sun and warm weather you will really have a good time. Loon will be crazy on Sat with the Mountain dev vertical challenge, it will be very quiet Sunday.

The forecast for Sunday River calls for sunshine both weekend days and 30F on saturday and 40F on sunday.

Good, cause we hope to be at either Loon or Waterville Valley on Sunday, hopefully with my daughter.

damn. those herring are really getting around....

I just realized, this is the first year since I can't remember when I have not skied at Cannon. I miss those $29 and $39 tix....

They have 2 for 1 tix the rest of the season. But don't tell anyone because we don't want the crowds.

Yep, 2 for $60 everyday.

That is correct.Thats actually more money for NH resident on Wednesday which has been $25.I'm sure that's still good though. On another note,Cannon will now be open every day through the 13th and possibly the 20th if sales are good.
