catskillman, it seems that pretty much all of your posts are aimed at defaming Hunter.

whatever.... We are suffering form a major storm... I mean - major.. The town is paralyzed with 6 foot plus of snow... the snow has been relentless. We have power outages in town.. So does the mountain.. People can't even get down their streets... Or out of their driveways...

+1 The town looked like a wreck on Friday. It snowed all day Friday. Not sure what they got Friday overnight and Saturday... That amount of snow shuts down a town and brings every powder hound and gaper in the tri-state area knocking on Hunters door. We had to cross four 6-8' high snow banks in the parking lot to get to the base area!!!

I had pointed that out previously. His posts aren't quite outright lies, just exaggerations, making a big deal out of normal events, and somehow, never once managing to make a post not complaining about some aspect of Hunter......and yet he still skis there. Very strange.

No lies. I ski at Hunter for many reasons. I live here and have a pass situation. The snow happened and the town is a disaster. Spent Sunday helping out friends with major issues caused by it.

It is not just me - check out the excert from the hunterskisceneblogspot from the "comments "section for Sunday Feb. 28th.

The remarks about the skiing are incredible, best runs of our lives, chest deep, face shots the entire way, people going over fences, belt parkway fence to lower road, super death steep, over Jimmy Huega and the Cliffs fences ,skiing under lifts,Annapurna was set up the best ever, ect The remarks about the ski areas performance and readiness for the snow, lets see,the power out wasn't their fault but....................... They knew the snow was here and coming, this was a multi day storm, even if they blew it on the first day anyone ever hear of overtime for employess? Why weren't the lifts dug out and ready ,for the early morning, why was the Copper Tree food services not ready or open, the parking lots dug out? In one of the biggest storms of the century an opportunity to showcase the mountain to all the new people that came and there were lots of them, they were greeted by a huge line never ever seen before because of the lack of preparedness, this is a ski area,in the snow business, and when a lift sits for days not being made ready there is something wrong with managements decisions, its as Hunter Mountain is run by not a single person who is a skier, that has a clue from the customers perspective about what they see. They don't want to wait to spend their money, both on the lift ticket sales line,to spend money for food,(like an extra cash register or two would be so mind boggling during the lunch rush. The fact that the power went down is not Hunters fault, but that hundreds and hundreds of people walked out with not a single bus in sight is disgraceful.Again season pass holders were given nothing, like we don't matter, and regular customers who buy maybe a ticket or two were given vouchers for $40 to $80 for the walk .Hunter missed a huge chance on this .The advertising could of been huge ,but too bad many new customers went away very unhappy, most of us season pass holders are used to it,and will still be here, but I know of several that are so fed up that are contemplating other ski areas for next year, and thats a shame, because the ski experience this past week should of been epic all the way around .

The cost cutting and laying off of personnel in prime season is an obvious hatchet job,a crude one at that, and the one that will suffer is Hunter itself. Isnt this what was done in Mount Snow before it was sold???? To make the bottom line better???No imagination to make the resort better and make more money for it,just make it seem better for the total,is that what marketing is all about?Just curious.Saving a dollar every one is conscious of,as any business should be,however this is a resort area.Employees are much needed and the thought behind laying off personnel in the winter is so stupid that whoever is in charge(and I do know who that is) should be fired instantly as its only hurting the resort, not helping it.Hunter had a huge chance to shine, money was there for the taking, except a dollar cutter is doing his best to cut costs than make the place better. Hunter and its loyal people deserve better, and so do its employees that aren't in top management

By the way - this is not me. I took off the individuals name.

The only complaint I have with my abortive experience at Hunter (see the "Peak Days" thread) is that there was no intel on their website about anythign going on. The 3 mile long traffic jam was a decent indicator, but there was no way to tell if it was an overturned snowplow, or the line for the bathroom.

Well... Jonny Eyebrows and I don't always see eye to eye on conditions...

And Vic's response is Vic doing his thing - he's got a lot invested into Hunter... I know everyone's upset... But i had a good time... :)

All I can really say, is having been at killington, where they've had a much more sane ~50 inches of snow, I can understand the position Hunter's in. Killington, had lifts that didn't open until the afternoon and a 45 minute liftline at Bear as a result....s*** happens. Digging out those lifts, looked like incredibly difficult work, and same goes for deicing them. Also, at some point...one runs out of room the put the snow, Killington definitely lost a lot of the Vale lots from the piles of snow that had to be put there.

I had a great time...if you couldn't get to Hunter because you decided to party Friday night and get up at the crack of noon, tough. You snooze, you lose.

Fact is, the roads were closed because there was nowhere to put more people/cars. I got there early and was skiing by 9am.

The lifts/lines were slow until they cleaned and opened D and F lifts. Which I thought they did pretty quickly. After that, they didn't have the electricity to run more lifts.

So you take what you get and enjoy every turn you get like I did. 70 inches of snow is alot and the fact is they did the best they could.

I stayed at a buddy's house Saturday to hold my place on the mountaintop and was skiing early again Sunday. Made it to 3pm and then just collapsed basically.

What a weekend. I skied in places I never thought I would. Trees and liftlines I thought unskiable. And I only scratched the surface of the many possibilities.

I really was prepared to give Hunter a fair shot. I did not get Belleayre season passes this year for the boys. I bought x3 cards for each of us. Bought lift tickets during the holidays, and another during President's weekend. I enjoyed myself, but Hunter dropped the ball too often. Between, broken lifts, herd service, and the Joeys I'm done. I bet during the week it is a different mountain, but for a working stiff who only has weekends and holidays, I'll be spending my money elsewhere next season. The contrast with Plattekill on Saturday was the final nail in the coffin.

I had a great February at Hunter!

Conditions were great.. I skied lines I never skied... The quad issue got fixed and worked flawlessly.. The powder was pretty abundant.. Westway was skiable all month... The party in the lodge has been raging.. Met a lot of cool people..

And I was unemployed for most of it!!

The quad was bad until about 11:30 or so. But Mostly between 10-11:30 when all the late arrivals showed up. Before 10 I got in about 5 runs between 9-10 which is normal.

I had a fantastic time this weekend and was not inconvenienced one bit. The folks who are complaining are just suffering from sour grapes or something. Anyone who didn't have a good time at Hunter this past weekend has serious issues.

Wayout that it. Would have been easier and shorter...

Indeed... Easy hike.. I've done it..

Funny thing is... most people i talked to were laughing about the so called "death march"...

I missed it...
Popped out of the woods behind the Y chair after riding Rusk and saw the lift was down... Got on the phone and called a friend... It was his 3rd trip to get people :)
