Please explain what this "Clark Kent" maneuver is.

I'm pretty sure a "Clark Kent maneuver" would involve some SUPERhuman theatrics. While I have not lied about any "maneuvers", I may have to call in sick this monday:snow:

while i was working for someone i tried to be honest about the fact i was going to miss the days it snowed, and i was willing to make up for it. now however the kids that work for me are a littlle surprised at the amount of time i take off. it doesn't exactl set the best example but due to the fact i dont make people be on site till 10 or 11. then i try to take them out for drinks at least one every two weeks. everyone seems to be happy. even my clients in last two weeks were getting worried because i had riding in awhile. they said i was looking stressed and should take a couple of days and go somewhere because they need me with my head in the game for the start of two new projects.

No, I don't lie to ski. I haven't really taken any spur of the moment trips, but even so, I wouldn't lie. If my schedule at work is light enough that I can manage to take the time off, it shouldn't be a big issue to once in a while decide a few days before that I want to take a day off. What matters in the end is that I get my work done. More often than not, of course, I have enough going on that I'm not going to just take a random day off without providing some advanced notification.

This was an excellent post. Its almost impossible to miss a day for me without notice. A couple days notice if usually no issue in the winter.

No way, man. I get shit for taking a sick day as it is, I'm not giving my co-workers any wood to put on the fire. If my workload allows for it, I will take the day off and let my boss know what I am doing. If not...unlucky, there will be other days.

I wish I had sick days. And vacation days.

I've been working round the clock for the last 4 weeks. I think I've gotten away for a total of 2 hrs in that time.

No, don't lie to ski or golf. I just tell my owner what my plans are and he's cool with that. he knows if I'm taking the day off my store is in good shape and can live without me for a day or 2. He's never turned me down because I've never called in "sick" since I've worked for him ('94) and knows I'd never take advantage of him. I tell my guys the same thing, "You want the day off, take it. Just make sure all your bases are covered and have a great day."

I get sick time on an as-needed basis and I have also received crap for taking it...in addition, when I do have to take sick time I have to make up the time later to meet deadlines.

This season, I tried to keep a few days of vacation available and I just let my boss know that I could take a day off on short notice. Only ended up heading out for one powder day this season, but I didn't have any problems. Of course, I'm a 15 - 20 day a season skier so I don't run into too many conflicts...

I would love to explain but i have a feeling certain members of the moral majority would tar/feather/ridicule and condemn me to utter hell for such antics.

Well, only those in the know knew that it was a reference to you... Until you posted and gave it away.. ;)

A good thing for me is that I can ski anyday after work at Blue mountain...I use 2-3 weeks of vacation time every year for ski trips as well and random days here and there for long weekends. At my work there are no sick days..sick days count the same as vacation days. If it's a slow period..I can schedule vacation time fairly last minute..

One day when I'm the boss..it will be tough to stay disciplined.

This sounds like a message in a bottle to some one ... I hope he picks up on it.

I may be a little slow and/or dense, but not that much...

I have taken the grand kids at times to give my daughter some "time off" .. I love it when I can accomplish two things at the same time ..Being a good Dad and Grandpa.

My dad does that every week with my daughter for a few hours. When my son gets a little older he'll take him too. Another win/win situation.

My boss supports my habit. I have canceled vacation days last minute due to nair and hav given her a days notive if a storm is working out in our favor.

MrsGrassi21 is cool with letting me take my days. No need to lie about getting some ski lovin'.

I wouldn't dare to call in sick and go skiing, just my luck I'd either get hurt or someone would see me and get busted, that just wouldn't be good. If I take a day off for skiing it would be legit. I have to give at least three days notice that I'm taking a day off.

No, you call in saying you got hurt night skiing (nothing specific) and if gets better you will be in tomorrow but if it isn't feeling better you are going to the Doc later in the day. Go have fun and if you get hurt you are covered.

I may have the best job for an overnight powder dump. I drive school bus. If there is too much snow to get 7 miles to school then my daughter and I go 37 miles to the mountian.:daffy:
