For some reason I look totally out of place on a mogul run. But put me in the woods on tree moguls and I can make it down not looking like a total noob. Dont know why but it happens. I love the woods, its nice and peicefull with out tons of people flying all around you.
Just a guess, but this may have something to do with where you are focusing your eyes. If you are skiing bumps on a open mogul run and your eyes are focused down on the bump in front of you, that will lead to having a rough run since it is hard to maintain a flowing line.
However, when skiing bumps in the trees, you can't look down at the bump in front of you or your more likely to hit a tree that you didn't see. You are forced to look forward and let your legs absorb the bumps while your eyes keep you on a good line.
I'm a big proponent on being aware of where my eyes are focused. Looking straight down at your skis or at the bump directly in front of you doesn't allow your brain to prepare your legs for the next bump, or obstacle that is coming up in front of you. Then things get sloppy (back seat, loss of flow, etc) as you try to get caught up again.
People with actual experience with teaching bump skiing can chime in now.
