I sing while actually skiing, but talk to my self if riding the lift solo. Otherwise I'm just annoying the poor sob who got stuck next to me

Yeah- if I don't have company I talk to myself. Not sure what about- just random crap that pops into my head.

If I'm not skiing at my best I tell myself what to do.

If I'm skiing well I just relax and let myself enjoy it.

Things I say to myself:
  • Don't "f" up!
  • Breath, Breath, Breath!
  • Whoooo Hoooooo!
*Reserve the right to add to this list ;)

The breathing thing is a good one Trek! Generally helps make sure you'll have a next run! ;)

I have a little psycho voice inside my head that occasionally rings out:

"get forward","hands up in front"

Out loud I'm frequently whooping in delight, much to my 10 yr old daughter's embarrasment!

Laugh if you must, but......at least I'm alive :)

I sometimes get caught up in the moment and forget to breathe also....so I end up gaping for air at the bottom of the line.
Me too, especially when I'm having a great run.......funny huh.

Followed up by the inevitable hollaring from the porch..

"HEY, THOSE ARE MY SKIS! Hey! That guys STEALING my SKIS!"

I too have a tendency to utter little coaching comments to myself. On one particularly good run last season, my voice started low but got progressively louder with the "go baby! go baby!..." and wound up coming off of the run to a loud, rousing "Whoo-Hoo!" It got me a few looks out in the public area and my face was a little red but I make no apologies. :daffy:

Last weekend, I had stopped near a woman on one of the trails. This guy passed us, yelling "Go! Go! Go!"

She looked toward where he'd gone and said "Excuse me?"

I laughed and said that he hadn't been talking to her, but to himself. Then I changed it and said that he was likely talking to his skis. Then I laughed, and skied away, after saying "You should hear some of the things I say to my skis!"

I'm constantly talking to myself, short phrases like that, and repeating. Mike me on a bump run and you might hear something like this:

"Hips forward, hips forward, Mike. Hips forward. Turn turn turn turn turn. Hips forward. Look ahead. Hands forward, hands hands hands..."

That'd be on a run where I'm just sorta having a go. If I'm focusing on one aspect of my technique, it'll typically be one word repeated on and off down the run.

If you think that's bad, you should've seen me in the computer lab in college while working on my thesis. Talking to myself helps me think more fluidly and relaxes me.
