Here for the duration. Absolutely will retire from this job, although with manditory retirement, that's not that far away. By that point, my wife will be well established. She was (and I absolutely believe her) that she'll never retire. We'e not going anywhere.

Nice choice on Santa Fe. Great town, great undiscovered ski area. One of my favorites. Short drive to Pajarito and Taos, too..

Yes, I definitely plan on staying in New England, probably here in Maine. I've lived here almost two years and so far its my favorite of the New England states, which includes 12 years in Vermont through High School, College and living in Stowe for a number of years. I prefer the skiing in Northern Vermont to Maine as well as the political climate, but for Maine as a total package is better. I guess it's because I've fallen in love with the ocean, which one has to have something to do other than ski in the summer.

I've lived all over the country including out west in Colorado and nothing beats New England if you ask me. Sure, skiing is different and in many ways better out west, but there's something that I enjoy about powder days in the woods in New England. I'm also a HUGE Boston sports fan and definitely enjoy the unique pride most of New England takes in our teams. There's nothing like it anywhere else in the country.

I've definitely traveled and lived enough places to quell my curiosity and New England simply is it for me.

I couldn't have said it better. I was thinking the same thing. I was in Montana last week, sure there are weird things the earth is doing out there, big peaks, but it does not have the beauty that there is in Northern Vermont and Maine. I was fortuanate enough to spend about 5 years in the Stowe area for college and now travel every weekend all winter long to Jay. I feel that I have the best of both worlds. I am fortunate enough to live on Cape Cod and able to go to VT. Ski all winter long and boat and fish all summer.

Nothing beats the sports in New England, Go SOX!!!

Definately! I'm a born an raised Northeasterner and while I enjoy seeing other aras of the country, especially the Southwest, I enjoy the 4 seasons, lakes, mountains. ocean and the proximity of mutliple major metropolitan areas withina couple of hours of drive time.

Plus, I've spent the better part of 10 years building up a practice and have an enjoyable business partner that I can't see walking away from. That and if I did move away I'd have to consider selling/giving up my Patriots season tickets that I waited A LONG TIME to get ;)

We'll definitely be in NE in the next 10 years. It's where I've always lived and it's where all of our family is. Sure, I'd love to move out west, but it's just not in the cards right now. A move further north has been considered, but also not likely..

Nope. I'll be long gone in a decade. In about five years from now, I'll pack my bags and move out west. Skiing is my biggest passion and I gotta live where the skiing is the best and that's not anywhere in the east.

You really like digging through the archives huh? Anyway I've now seen all four seasons here in Colorado and think it has lot's of activities to offer year round. I feel less connected to the car for biking, hiking, skiing ect.... I can't say I'll never move again-but I'm positive I'll never live back east again. I look forward to visiting in Sept. and catching stripers and eating haddock, clams and hiking in the white mountains smoking ton's of grass ect....

Unlikely. All the wife's family + most of mine is in N. CA and our moms aren't getting any younger. Given my profession probably the SF bay area, although I wouldn't mind Portland or Seattle either.

We'll still be in the Northeast and still here in the Thousand Island Region or if we do move we'll go to Lake Placid region ..

We have traveled to many palces and find that the four seasons , the Dack's , the rivers and lakes and frankly the High Quality of Life at affordable levels with both low population density and all the benefits that accrue from same coupled with a laid back vibe suits us JUST fine .

Wait a minute . . . the grass in CO is no good?

I might have to rethink my plans to move . . . .

Grass is good here but I have more long-term friends and family that smoke back east-really can't be beat. I found a source while skiing very fast, like a week within arriving. I've been on break for the last couple months though

Anyhow I think I'll hike mt. Adams from route 2 when I get back, maybe airline trail. That's a tough climb with nice views and not too many people.

i work in a strange bussines. either you do projects in NYC or you don't. NYC i a bubble that operates outside of what is going on in the rest of the country.people are always building. if i could find a city that builds as many resturants/bars/nightclubs/hotels and was near the mountains i would move. there just isn't and i have looked. so the only sollution is to take on as manny projects durring the warm months as i can and ride durring the cold ones. its a good thing that people build the way i like to work. all thing considered i have the best of both worlds and will be able to provide for a familly of rippers when the day comes around.

Never responded to this thread. I'll still be in New England in ten years for sure. Family is here. But more than that, New England is home. Even though I have been moving every two years and have lived a fairly mobile life in general, there is something special about this little corner of the country called New England. Deadheadskier and JD said it best that the combination of great things to do is over whelming and you can never get involved with everything that you want to. With so much so close, New England isn't the best at anything, but fewer places have a better combination of so many quality options so close together.

I definitely considered CO during my Abasin trip. BUT I believe it was more wishful thinking than serious consideration.

Our families are here. It's hard to get away from them (and not really fair either) when you have children. I would love to move to the Warren/Waitsfield area of VT someday though.

I could see myself living somewhere different... Always wanted to move to CO or CA...
CO has awesome weather and good jobs...
CA - either the bay area or San Diego because of the work I could get there and the weather...

I'm transient like that...

After taking over the family homestead, which of course I don't mind, I'm pretty much here for good. Until I'm dead anyway. Not ruling out a second house somewhere of course. When I'm rich and all that.

But half of me also relates big time with Steve's very eloquent answer-

But to update it a little bit, some of the best moutain biking in the world, from what I'm told, is right here in NE.

I've been hearing the same thing lately. Now I just need to get out and ride as much of it as I can. :spin:

well, still hold the same feelings, except southeast NH is now home instead of Maine. I'll miss Portland, but Maine as a state is completely mis-managed financially. It is a great place, but the tax burden was ridiculous when I stepped back and looked at the big picture.

So, still feel the same overall about New England, but southeast NH seems more the place for me.

The only 2 places I've visited that I could see myself living outside of NE are Denver and the Bay Area.

But with family, etc. here now, there's not a lot of reality that's going to happen. And that's fine.

Still, I pine for a move to VT or NH from Mass. once we feel finacially able to do so. I may be 70, but, whatever it takes.
