No, definitely not safe. One thing I have done when I've had to drive a short distance in the middle of the ski day is only change out of my right ski boot into a driving shoe/boot while keeping the left ski boot on. This only works for an automatic transmission car & only if you have to drive a relatively short distance to the market or somewhere close.

It's quicker than having to change out of both ski boots to drive & then back into them to resume skiing. This would also work for the Slidebrook, Jay, Mittersill, etc. purposes mentioned earlier. At least you're driving safely with the foot that counts (on an automatic transmission).

The only time I tried it was just to get the car from the parking lot to the lodge door to deliver the car to my wife who was leaving for the day when I was going to continue skiing. It was decidedly unsafe even for that short distance, and I wouldn't try it again. This was in a standard, I had to remove my left boot to even use the clutch. I've never driven an automatic with ski boot(s) on, but it's clearly more dangerous to drive in ski boots than in street shoes.

ever illegally park on a powder day and end up being "that guy" that is all over the dry erase boards at the bottom of the lifts?

i've had to move my old van a few times but that was just around the lot...

Nope, not safe at all! Some years ago we were renting a house on Mountain Road a couple of miles away from Shawnee Peak. I drove with my boots on, and at around 30MPH managed to get my boot stuck between the clutch and the brake, rendering the brake useless until the boot was freed. That road isn't exactly smooth and even, it was an interesting mile or so

Dumb move

I take it no one has had to car pool the runs in the dip and big jay before then.
LOL LOL  Guilty!

But I do it only with AT boots, never alpine. AT boots unhinge the ankle to allow flexing the foot forward unlike rigid alpine boots. Even for a run to the D, I wouldn't do it with alpine boots.

It does seem that if someone stoled your shoes from the base lodge you would be better off taking off the ski boots and drive in your socks.

The dumb thing is it's illegal to drive without shoes, but ski boots probably count as shoes.

I don't know why it's illegal to drive barefoot. You get better feel than with an inch of rubber between your foot and the peddle; heck, racing shoes are essential socks with a no-slip material on the bottom.

In what state is it illegal to drive barefoot??? When I drive long distances..it's always barefoot..next thing you know..they'll make dancing a crime like in Footloose..

I wouldn't want to drive to CT with them on, but it isn't that bad, takes a bit to feather the clutch though

Same here, the ride is maybe 1 mile round trip. I don't see short distances as an issue, hell I don't even take my helmet or goggles off to make the trip. If I take my boots off, I am done for the day. Just picked up a new pair of Nordica Beast 10's, I could sleep in them.
