Sweet goose stompin' in that first vid. Still, I would hit that. I wonder what a wipe-out feels like though...

sign me up. looks like big-time fun. but yeah falls could be ugly. it'd be cool if that xanadu place in nj had a bump setup.

I know I said it before, kind of surprise a local place like Nashoba doesn't do this, they own the land and they have the lift system. They put that stuff on a mogul trail I would be on it in a heartbeat. They put kickers and rails, they get the business from the park rats.

I worked at a summer camp a few years ago* that installed a little dry hill. It was like a patch of astro-turf that was sprayed with some soapy water to make sliding easier. Sliding down the run was mildly entertaining, but not really an acceptable substitute for skiing. And falls weren't really fun. Even if the hill was longer or had those "moguls," I can't see there being enough demand for this to make it worthwhile for any ski area to bother with. It's just not as much fun as skiing on snow or mountain biking or just about most any other sport.

The Japanese version with "moguls" does look interesting as a training tool for bumpers, which could work if a resort was going to run a summer clinic.

*actually, more than 10 years ago now, yikes, I feel old.

I looked up the info on this place.

It is a couple hours north of Tokyo. A sports club with ski/boarding, tennis, (short) golf and gym.

Slope is 150m long and 20m wide, 20 degree max and 10 degree average with a rope tow. They use German plastic snow (or reversed brush to be more exact) thingly. It is lighted for night skiing.

BTW, they also had their first mogul competition this April. It says that the competitors also helped building the mogul course. They managed to invite a national mogul competitor to have a mogul clinic the day before too.

Wow..... I've been seeing more mogul skiing vids from Japan on youtube. Maybe my distorted view, but it seems this sport is catching on big time over there
