End of march? Best conditions? Best values?

Hey, planning another trip for the end of march.

Where will we find the best conditions? Whiteface? Gore? Sugarbush?

We have a group of 6 and want to pay no more than $200/person for a weekends worth of skiing. Probably head up friday night, ski sat and sunday.

Any good suggestions for my requirements?

Killington would be a good bet, Bear Mountain is going to be open until at least the beginning of April, since BMMC and Spring Loaded aren't until then, so you should get most of the mountain open.

We have done the Stowe/Jay/Bolton trip the past two late March's. Lift tix still pretty steep at Stowe and Jay although a couple of years ago I bought a Jay ticket for $15 on eBay in mid-March. Conditions have been fine the last two years as well....warms up nicely by the afternoon.

Check out the Golden Eagle Resort in Stowe. They have a special for March of a percentage off the rates for the total snowfall of the Valentines Day storm. I think Stowe got close to 30" so its a nice deal!

Gore? 4 1/2 hours - Very, very Natural Snow Dependant
Sugarbush? - 6 Hours - Should be pretty reliable
Killington? - 4 Hours - Very Reliable, usually very good ski/stay packages

What's the age/gender mix? What is the primary focus? Or what are you looking for in a ski area?

Well if that is the case, whiteface is one of my overall favorit areas...The town is great and you just can't beat the 'dacks

Whiteface in march is sweet. Soft snow, plenty of sun.
the whiteface summit shots I posted yesterday are all from march.
Hilton has great deals- sun-thursday. like 60 dollars a person per night including breakfast (buffet) and lift tickets. Which is sick.

Pretty sure my man. Might have lost some lower lying green runs at that point, but the upper mountain should be at full capacity.

The lower Mt. was getting thin. IMO you have an excellent chance of good conditions at WF the end of March, you may even have a chance at the Slides then.

No offense to the poster who wrote that WF was very natural snow dependent, but that is simple not true.

jay melts out real fast due to exposure and open trails. might still be able to find some excellent snow, but mushy wet snow and flats don't mix. at that time of the year, recent weather becomes a very big factor. bush goes late, i love late season skiing at wildcat. late april in burke is generally fantastic. it is kinda hard to go wrong in march, actually. best to book as late as possible though to plan around the weather. one bad weather event and any area mentioned in this thread could not ski well.

Anywhere in northern NewEngland!...but IMHO, you should sincerely try looking @anytime *during the week* instead of weekends in March..usually pretty crowded...that is in-resort. March weekends are made for earning ya' turns off-resort...my $.02. ...However, as riverc0ilmentioned, NewEngland skiing is highly dependent on Mothah' Nature.
As far as deals go....they shouldn't be too tough to find...but again, per riverc0il..best to check short-term weather & conditions...

In my opinion, Sugarloaf has the most reliable spring conditions in the east. It's got all the important factors: latitude, exposure (faces almost directly north), and altitude. Plus the backside snowfields could be sweet around that time.

wow, my thread came back from the dead! thanks guys!

The group is all in their 20's. As a group, we are comfortable in doing most blues. And some are comfortable in doing everything.

We've been to Kmart 3 times this season so we would like to try somewhere else.

I would love to be able to go up during midweek...but boss will kick my ass if i do.

Right now we have narrowed it down to whiteface and bolton valley. Sugarloaf might be a possibility...but the drive might be too long for just a weekend trip.

How is the back country for bolton valley? thats the first thing that caught my eyes when I was looking at their trail map. It seems like not a lot people discuss about bolton here.

Will whiteface and bolton valley still be a good bet in early april? What kind of conditions will we be expecting from wf and bolton in earl april? Is snow still in the forecast during lat march for these resorts?

We just got a good soaking of rain in NYC and temperatures are starting to climb back into the 40's. Seems like the season is coming to an end....
