A while back I read an article about how some departments were considering BMW as a patrol car, I think it was around the time that the end of the Caprice was announced. The thinking was that they didn't want to have to retrain their force in FWD pursuit tactics, and I guess they didn't like the Crown Vic for whatever reason. I don't know what ever happened with that idea, I've never seen a BMW cop car around here. Probably cost prohibitive and too much red tape perhaps.

A lot of police departments are out shopping for a new platform since the Crown Vic is going away. It worked well since the frames could easily be "untweaked" after a mishap and there's an insane amount of parts floating around out there. There is something to be said about a good ol' V8 powered RWD workhorse.
