Family fun at Bretton Woods

Got out for the initial runs of the season on Saturday at Bretton Woods. Had lots of trails open with kind of thin cover but lots of fun. Came across a family. Kid was down in kind of a pile of powder. Dad was kind of talking sternly to the kid to get up and ski towards him, then the mother just starts screaming at the kid. I mean really screaming at the top of her lungs. The kid looked like 5-6. Just made me cringe seeing parents yelling at a child on a ski slope like that.

You wouldn't even believe how amazing Bretton Woods was on Friday. It was a magical world filled with boot deep powder, free refills, and all the families were confined to the groomers. Given the lack of a base I really trashed my ski bases, but it was totally worth it. I skied ~28 runs, and only repeated a run twice. I got last chair to the point where they shut down the lift as soon as I skied down the ramp. When I left there were open trails that I did not have time to ski. It was absolutely FANTASTIC!!!

Zealand and Snake? Check. West Glade? Check. What's that... glades open in November. Hell yes!

My dumbest decision of the week was to not pack my powder skis for the weekend. I would have killed for them. My Rossi E88 rock skis are getting some TLC at Wildcat after the trashing they got at BW.

Saturday at Wildcat was the complete opposite. It was an F-ing train wreck. Hordes of family refugees from Attitash destroyed Lynx by 11am. Lower / Middle Polecat and Upper Catapult were iced over whales. Everyone I know quit and went day drinking instead. Sunday at Wildcat was much better. Soft snow and no crowds.

I don't know if I should cheer your post or tell you to hush it. I don't care if its not the most challenging, I like the place and plan on returning again this season (Dec 20-21 might be the target) with the wife (who loves BW). Keep telling the boy not to completely shun it for Cannon since it has good trees.

Bretton Woods is the place to go if you are looking for ropes to drop. That is the main advantage of being New Hampshire's only lift serviced golf course. It's a lot easier to cover grass than gnarly rock.

BW also has a lot of glades. They aren't steep, but they are plentiful.

It is a place of contradictions. Kind of fancy with the Mt Washington crowd but they drop ropes on some sketchy stuff. It's thought of as a groomer place but just about every cruiser has a big strip of ungroomed that is all mine whenever I go. And then the trees. It's so fun there.

I always enjoyed BW for all of those reasons !! The glades might not be so steep but they can be fun !
I was afraid to admit I've been there 4 days so far this season😎

For $19, who should be embarrassed? If you know how to ski BW, it is a very underrated hill. It's also a great example of a ski area that makes the most with what they have.

Wish I had gone there on Friday instead of Okemo. I've still got a couple $19 tickets to use up. BW may be my destination this weekend.

I used to ski BW all the time...a lot had to do with people I was with but really the low angle trees are great and snow is usually as good as NE gets. On a true deep day it gets a little flat trying to keep speed. Perfect day is 3-4 inches on a soft base, in that scenario you will have a good time for sure
