Oh sure blame it on the husband :lol: I faced the wrath of my wife for not packing what she wanted.

He's an awesome guy, but this time he did slip. ; - )

But after listening to me say, "FIFTEEN DOLLARS" several times, I don't think it'll happen again. : - ) I'm sure that hurt him as much as it hurt me.

I always seem to have a good time at Ragged (at least when Spear is open) due to the lack of crowds and fair amount of variety for it's size.

Revisiting this thread. won't answer your question directly ..

MRG for brutal honesty on and off the slopes. When it's good, it's very, very good, when it's bad, it's very very bad. But I still ski it. Every day at MRG reminds me why I go back.

Magic for their underdog spirit, know how and motivation. Blacks with personality. Selective grooming and "too much snow" on the marked trails.

Sugarbush - Always struck me as a "skiers mountain". Hard to put my finger on it. I started going there long before the construction began. As a day tripper, I look past all that. Something about the very distinct personalities of Lincoln, Castlerock and Mt E. that provide something regardless of the mood.

Jay for the powder in the woods. Blue groomers at Jay suk!

Stowe because I have to. Well, the price is right too.

Hmm. This list is very VT-centric

I don't know if I could ever just pick one "favorite" as it depends what aspect of the resort is my favorite. For character of the trails and culture of the mountain it would be Mad River Glen. For powder it would be Jay. For spring bumps, it would be Wildcat. But if I could only ski one area for the rest of my life, I don't think I could possibly go with any other mountain besides Cannon.
Add Smuggs as one of my favorites. Cannon is still my favorite place to ski, though.

Mt. Mansfield is the best combination of natural snow and terrain in the east. When I'm on top of the Chin, the high cost of skiing Stowe and 'snob factor' disappears. Me and the hill is all there is when I'm standing there. That hill is the best one in the East. I could give a sh*t about vibe on a powder day. I want the mountain with the best terrain and lifts to get me on it. Stowe is the one.

In the East I like Sunday River and Cannon just because they feel like home to me.

In the west I like little low key underdogs like Loveland, Powderhorn, Pow Mow ect...... I am not really Loyal to one region as snow varies. I guess Loveland is like home a little out there.....

West - I hate to be another to say it... being that it gets a bit of the trash talk that Killington does out here, but Whistler. Great mountain that's not out to kill you (although trouble is easily found if you want it), laid back vibe, great horticultural treats, noticeable lack of $16 hamburg monopolies, and a good setup logistically speaking (as long as you have a map)

East - Best experience I've had was at Smuggs, but it was quite awhile ago. I'd give Gore an honorable mention too.

Right where I want to be
May have responded back in 2010 but will again. I guess my rankings are directed by the fun I have had there and how many times I have yelped and hollered in joy while skiing there.
Resort - Stowe or Sugarbush
Area - Cannon, Wildcat and MRG
West - Copper and Snowbird

I'll stick with the east-focus as well.

If I could be anywhere east?

Stowe (big mountain, varied terrain, challenge, great apres-ski activities etc...)

Day-trippable (invented word)

Plattekille (family feel, ungroomed terrain, steeps, beers on the porch, and did I mention ungroomed terrain?)

Sugarloaf... Nothing I have personally skiied (have only been in the east) can come close to the feeling of hiking up to and skiing the backside on a perfect day.

And a bag burger at the end of the day brings it all together.

In my current life - Gore

In my fantasy life -
East - Sugarbush
West - Sun Valley

Fantasy retirement spot-
somewhere between Carson City and Reno for high desert weather and easy access to Lake Tahoe skiing.

ALTA, ALTA, ALTA, ALTA. Nothing else like it on the planet. It is literally like dying and going to heaven. I make a pilgrimage there as often as possible.

Interesting to see a number of Tahoe responses a I am there now. Squaw and Alpine Meadows are very very good places. I am quite impressed with the tree runs at Sierra as well.

However, although I ski alot of eastern areas, Sunday River is my sentimental fave. Sugarloaf is the s***, and I love Saddleback and Wildcat but I have to go with SR. We are lucky to have to many ares to choose from.
You skied Northstar? It really gets trashed by the locals. I avoided it based on the trash talk. Was I wrong?

Yeah, loved Alta. But when I peered over into Mineral Basin, I couldn't wait to ski Snowbird. Gotta say that Snowbird has gotten my vote for best ski area. Great lifts, great snow, long season, great vibe, great service and employees, excellent lifts and terrain variety. My list would look something like this:

1. Snowbird;
2. Alta;
3. Squaw Valley;
4. Sugarbush;
5. Burke Mountain;
6. Sugarloaf/USA.

I'd put Zermatt up there, but I only sampled a relatively small portion of that resort.

Got to get my a$$ to Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee, and some of the Colorado resorts!

Not going to be probably skiing as much this winter thanks to the little one on the way, but most of my days will be at Snowbird. Will make some trips over to Alta with my pass discount, and will try to get to Brighton and some other places too. But pretty much Snowbird.

My favorite resort has always been Aspen and my favorite mountain Snowmass (has everything). That being said I haven't been there in a while and I hear its changing. May have to look at Telluride, Butte, and Purgatory in the future. Family connection has me going to Utah these days and my favorite there is Alta and no resort. I would like to take the wife to Sun Valley sometime.

In the east it would be Smugglers Notch.

I guess I need to update this as my last few visits have elevated Solitude to the ranks of favorite in Utah. Nothing wrong with Alta, Soitude just moved up.
