Hey Chris - I spent 18 months on a long project assignment in Cortland NY back in 95-96 and skied Greek a couple times to keep from going crazy. It's not quite as large as West, but they have night skiing, the lodge is great and they have really good snowmaking, or at least I recall they did 10 years ago. Today it must be better. Anyway, it's only 5 min from downtown Cortland and a great place to go for beers even if you're not skiing. You'll definitely have fun there. The other ski areas south of Syracuse pretty much are local yokel areas (IMHO). Song, Tongennburg (or whatever it's called) aren't much. Greek is the best in the area.

Have a great time in Cortland and go to Woodman's (Woody's) on Central Street and have a draft and throw some darts for me.......:)

Thanks for the info. I actually think people have told me about woodmans.. I can guarantee you i'll throw darts for you, i just dont know if they'll hit the board

King Pine, NH

A place where I could always turn my kids loose, let em have a blast. Also has one of the steepest runs in NH (Pitch Pine)

Still get there at least one day a year, tho kids are grown....they still love the place. Mostly memories, which never get old.

Retired from teaching at Yawgoo Valley but one night a week of doing laps on Yellow Jacket when nobody is there is still great exercise and a lotta fun.....

King Pine is the first place I ever skied back in 1985 while in kindergarden. king pine/purity spring resort is awesome, I have many great memories skiing there as a little kid and going to camp tohko in the summer which uses one of the t-bar shacks as a camp cabin. Last time I skied there was in 2000, pitch pine has to be one of the steepest runs at a 350' vert area ever. King Pine is definatly my favorite small area, mostly for sentimental reasons, but the skiing is quality too.

NH: Crotched
VT: Lyndon Outing Club (I can watch skiers from my dorm room window)
MA: Haven't skied there yet
ME: Shawnee Peak
CT: Haven't skied there yet
RI: Haven't skied there yet
NY: Haven't skied there yet

I have a few more states that I need to experience before my opinion realy counts on this, but I have found that the above mentioned ski areas are quite fun small places to point the planks downhill.

Shawnee Peak, Maine. Some would qualify it as a mid-size mountain though. It has probably a dozen good fall line runs down 1200 or so vert.

I agree with Shawnee Peak but don't consider it a small mountain, but rather a midsize one. It is my home mountain where I ski about 45- 50 days each season.:daffy:

I remeber skiing at the amesbury ski tow when I was a kid. It was very small, but had decent pitch and was a lot of fun at night
