Basic requirements:

Skis most of the mountain but with caution
Impossible to keep track of since his/her style is neither great nor gaperish
Somehow his or her jacket has colors nobody can remember
Doesn't chat on the lift but is not rude either
etc

I hope we cover all the bases with this one. Jeezum.

There's this one guy, but he's so unremarkable I can't remember his name... :-?

I think it starts with a W and ends with a Z...

Add skis as far from the lifts as possible and your getting close. Close to 60yo and after 50 years of skiing I have definately downshifted a couple of gears. After my last bad accident about 10 years ago on Organgrinder with Kelly Lewis mildly scolding me as she was helping be out of the woods definately put the word caution in my skiing after that. I thought in my dazed state that she was an angel and I had gone to heaven.

You have launched my campaign ckofer. This is a title I want to win. I'm just an average guy who loves every second out on the hill. The most modest and 'average' skier you'll find. IMHO the 'average' guy has the most fun and that's all I aspire to have.

....can't wait for sunday at the cat.

all that counts is having a smile when you get to the bottom. It's all about having fun.

Oh definitely. But come on, are you guys really telling me you have no desire to improve from a technique standpoint? Perhaps you've already reached a certain level that you're happy with? Maybe I'm just vain, but when I see a guy ripping, I say to myself "I want to ski like him someday!" Just keeping it real.

For me, it's all relatively to the season at hand. I want to finish my season skiing better/stronger than I start it. That's the only improvement I'm lookiing for. I honestly don't look at someone who rips and aspire to become as good as they are. I'm envious of the kids doing misty flips in the terrain park, but I sure as hell aren't going to practice, practice, practice so I can do that.

The primary reason all I'm really concerned with is having fun is because I know I'll never be as good of a skier as I was when I was 25 and I'm okay with that. The only way for me to ski as well as I did when I was 25 is to ski as often as I did when I was 25 at a challenging mountain. Life today only allows me out on the hill 15 to 25 days a season. That doesn't allow for the same performance as spending 80+ days out at a mountain like Stowe. Even if I did ski 80 days this season it would be a stretch to think I'd be as good as once was as though I'm not old by any means, reaction times and recovery ability are less at the age of 32 than it is at 25.

So now, I measure my success on how much fun I have and on level of fitness. The only thing that ever really upsets me anymore on the hill is when I feel my legs aren't strong enough to ski well for a full day.

In saying all this, I think I fit to a tee ckofer's definition of the 'average' skier

I'm pretty satisfied where I'm at. My first 20 years of skiing I always worked on technique. When you're on the far side of 50YO, an accumulation of bad habits and a body that ain't what it used to be, conspire to be the limiting factors. I am happy to be outside enjoying all I can. I've dabbled in almost everything skiing has to offer, save for extreme skiing. I am still learning new things, pushing the envelope, but it's more about adventure, skiing with a diminishing set of people my age, preserving my assets (especially knees) and just being outside at this point, rather than technique.

I never really worried about technique..when I started racing two season ago..I got lots of pointers that have helped but I just like to have fun..get mad steezy speed..ski some fresh Poe and rack up the vert. All I need now are some clown poles for the moguls and I'll be all set.

Today at Blue the bumps were uber nice because there was freshly blown chalky snow and only a few small ice patches and I was thinking how my 50 inch poles are too long for the bumps...LOL
