Finding the right ski

Hello,

I have skied for seven weeks now and consider myself as a good skier. I currently have the Atomic C9 (2004/2005) at 1.80m. I am 2.04m and weigh 85kg.
As I increased my skills I think this ski is a bit too soft for me especially in fast long carving turns. I almost never go ‘off piste’ and I really enjoy carving (small and long turns) but the ski should also be ski able with some less effort. I now consider the Atomic SX:10 (2005/2006) at 1.80m.
Is this a good choice considering my level and my preference for carving? Are there better alternatives? Is the length oke?

Thanks for your reply.

I can sum up most of the advice you'll get in 3 easy steps:

1) Demo
2) Demo some more
3) Demo the ones you liked best
4) Buy your favorite.

So I can't count. You gotta problem widat?

NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!

sorry...couldn't resist...

Going back on topic...are you looking at upgrading skis after 7 weeks or 7 years? If it's 7 weeks, then I'm impressed with your progress...

Erraahhhh....ya, seven weeks...great progress. I envy your apparent on-snow time.

If you are looking for "more ski" than the C9...have you considered the Fischer RX series (8 or 9), or the Volkl Star series (whatever they are called this year, 5-star, All Star).

For carving...and this comes from a Dynastar rep, but he's quaoting other reviews...their Omecarve 10 is supposed to be hot stuff.

Lots of great skis out there. Demo Demo Demo.

Enjoy the hunt!

Thanks for your replies,

I have skied about seven weeks and yes I did progress quite a lot. Maybe it is because I do a lot of other sports, such as athletics and tennis. My length and weight are also a factor why I think the ski is a bit too soft.
I reckon that the best way to choose a ski is to demo it, but that is not always possible. Here in the Netherlands the skies are now for sale at a 20% discount (atomic sx10 for €400) and I can sell my atomic C9 for about €160.
My only worry is that the atomic sx10 is only and only to go fast and make large turns. While I also like to make short carving turns.

So, is the SX10 a good choice or not. Or perhaps the sl9??

Thanks again.

PS I looked at atomic because I liked the C9 a lot.

Maybe this is a culture thing, but sports is a subset of athletics, not the other way around.

I don't think I get your point but in the Netherlands athletics means 100m sprint, 110m hurdles, shot put, long jump, high jump, pole vault, etc.

On topic: My most important question is still: Is the atomic sx10 a (major) improvement compared with the atomic c9?

Thanks for your replies.

We call that track and field. My point was that athletics kind of means any type of activity where you do something physical, which would encompass all sports.

On topic: I haven't looked at anything other than an all mountain ski in years, so this is not my area of expertise.
