colorado snow pack is one of the most dangerous, especially early in the season

Welcome bt; sounds like you've lost someone close to an avalanche, that must be tough.

He wasn't wearing a beacon; that's a bad thing, but I've read more about this and it seems he had alot of blunt trauma to his head and neck. Rescuers are fairly convinced he was killed by that trauma almost instantly and that he didn't suffocate. Small consolation if true.

You're right about early season CO snowpack. Lot's of 4-6" storms, lot's of layers, not much water content. Bad recipe.

hey Jim, thanks for the welcome

yeah, lost a good friend a long time ago.
he had no idea about snow safety and equipment,these stories really get me going.

having the right equipment,knowledge,route selection skills, and good judgement are all part of the formula to live for another run.

if you are going to play in the BC get equipment and take an avi class, PLEASE

Does anyone know of any respectable classes here in the east? I think there are some up at Tucks?
