The snowboard question doesn't go back as far as the skis (although I remember using a Snurfer was back when)

But what was your first pair of skis or snowboard?

The first pair of skis I owned (well, my parents purchased for me) were Hart Mercurys (white) with Cubco bindings. 150 length

My first pair of skis were Northlands with cable bindings and lace up boots. The next year they were up graded to step in Dover bindings. This would have been around 1970 .Look how far they have come!! By the way I still have 2 Snurfers, my daughter and I take them out every once in a while

Wow 1969- 70 season I had the dark green Northland 160cm skies. Same size I use know. :D Cable bindings Lace up Boots.. I got them after I showed up in winter boots and my parents found out I was still missing some gear. Best laugh in a while. Thankx

My first pair of skis was a pair of Atomics, but I don't remember the model. That was back in the mid 80's. Broke them when I got them caught under the lift.

My first snow board (aside from the snurfer I used on a local hill as a kid) is a 5150. I'm still riding it today.

In the summer of 1994, I bought my first pair of skis - the cheapest Elans (190 cm) I could find with Salomon Quad bindings and $99 Alpina boots.

My original set-up as well, but I rented each season until I was older (started skiing when I was 4). The first equipment I owned:

Spaulding Siderals with Marker bindings and Caber boots.

Hummer skis (yellow with orange stripes-pretty) with ancient Tyrolia bindings (runaway straps) and not even sure what I had for boots. Roughly '81 or '82...

When I was really little I had these plastic yellow skis with a sort of giraffe pattern and ankle straps. First real pair - mid 80's Olin race skis, unk length, bindings. Hot Pink and turqoise. My first day on them it was 10 below, don't remember the resort (had a leprauchan? as their logo). Just went screaming straight down the sheets of ice. One of the peak experiences of my childhood.

Brodie, maybe?

Definitely Brodie in "Kely's Irish Alps". Sadly Since being bought by Jiminy, they no longer offer skiing. I remember (vaguely) having lots of green beer there on St. Patty's Day.

I think they have some sort of snow tubing thing there now though.

Back on topic; Did anybody have those butterfly bindings on their first pair of skis or were those stupid things generally only used at rental shops?

On the North Peak Triple...
Blizzard skis (can't remember the model) 1975ish, which were hand me downs from a family friend, they were probably 170's, which were a bit big for me being 13 at the time, but "I would grow into them". Saloman bindings maybe 444 or 555's (probabbly 444 since I probably weighed just 100lbs). Nordica boots. I was told that the model I had was one of their first modern boots, replacing the old short (ankle) plastic designs.

Krystals. 170s I think. They were a JC Penney brand.  circa 1977. Bindings were Tyrolia 150s w/ safety straps. Boots were some kinda Nordica.

First tele skis: Tua Cirques - 200cm. Rotafella 912 Binders (914?) and Asolo Telbreeze boots. circa 1995.

well, for the boots question, I had Henke leather boots, with 4 buckles (used lace-up boots but they were rentals)
