The Single Chair Weather Blog "blog'n for powder"

Snowfall early New Year's Day was underwhelming and might have served as decent foundation material had we received more of it. The corridor from Randolph north to Northfield seemed to fare better, scoring closer to 4 inches of the same dense mash that Mad River Glen got. The backend moist conveyor is finally delivering fluffier snowfall as temperatures continue to cool across the entire Green Mountain Spine. Cooler temperatures have actually arrived in southern Vermont first, wrapping around the very mature cyclone now to our northeast. Snow will be enhanced by the unfrozen Lake Champlain and we should to well Thursday with temperatures in the 20's and 4-8 inches of new snow, 3-6 of which falls before the ski day and another 1-3 during.
An expansive winter storm will spread snow and ice from the Plains to portions of the Midwest and mid-Atlantic this weekend into Monday, potentially snarling post holiday travel in multiple states.
"This system has been named Winter Storm Blair by The Weather Channel."

Problem is in the west..you can get there..and its all closed for avi work.
At stowe..it was good to go

Yes, that was really an east coast comment. I'm point myself to Hunter, Whiteface, Jay Peak, Smuggs, wherever the blizzard was about to set-up. One of the best ski weekends of my life my friends and I got on the highway (87) just as state of emergency was declared and booked a last minute motel at Hunter. It snowed 3 feet and nobody could get to the mountain. It was the ski resort version of CartmanWorld with feet of powder.

We are at Mid-season now and most mountains are skiing and riding great at "Week 10" (1/4/25) HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
So the East is in really good shape for the extended cold spell just bundle up as its in the SINGLE digits with wind chills. We have a great set up for the expansion of the terrain we currently have. Cold, Snowmaking and possible fresh SNOW is in the immediate future just about every day. The West has gotten more SNOW and has opened up a lot more terrain. There are Skiable and Rideable mountains all over North America so a tasting of what is considered open terrain with Trail counts this early in the season "WEEK 10" around North America. These are considered lift serviced trails at some of the open ski mountains on Saturday 1/4/25. Hike to your delight for more trail fun.

Winter storm "Blair" is laying its SNOW tracks now and making its march across the Country. Not quite what the Skiing and riding Northeast is looking for but a whiff of the SNOW storms and Nor'easters we all look forward to seeing coming across and up the east coast.

LIVE STORM RADAR auto updated (check it out often)

In Northern Vermont (Stowe to JayPeak) could possibly pull 6" or more after this storm

AccuWeather forecasters warn that the waves of Arctic air spilling into the Plains and East will continue to expand southward across the nation, yielding notably cooler conditions as far south as the Southeast coast throughout the upcoming week.
This week, the cold pattern will be periodically rejuvenated as additional shots of energy pulse southward across the country, ushering in more brisk, Canadian air with temperatures well below the historical average.

When will this long-lasting chill end?
Through at least Jan. 12, widespread temperatures 12-25 degrees Fahrenheit below typical early-January values are projected to expand across much of the central and eastern United States.
8:06 starts the Northeast (1/11-1/12) Storm possibility??
