Hey guys, so for the last 7 years I've been skiing the same pair of volkl 5 stars and the wear and tear has finally started to take its toll on them. Overall I have loved their performance on groomed trail, but in the last few years I've been getting more into mogul runs and backcountry skiing where the volkl's preformance really lacks. As a result in my search for new skis I've been looking into a pairs of mogul/freeride skis. In general I have always liked the feel of salmon and volkls skis and have been skiing those companies for about the past 10-12 years. I have heard good reviews about the hart f17 classics, but being a college student they very expensive. I was wondering if you had any suggestion for other skis to take a look at. Thanks

The Line Prophets series (100 or 90s) are a great option. Really fun skis that can still hold a good edge on groomed stuff.

Add to that list: Volk Kendo & Blizzard Bushwhacker.

Check out the Atomic Theory, this is what I'm on now - really great ski and cheaper than some other options too. Make sure to mount it on Team or in front of Team if you like to billy goat through extremely tight trees.

My experience has been that they are really great at carving suprisingly, great in deep snow, forgiving on park landings, etc - really great ski. $350 new on ebay, you can probably get a one year old used pair mounted for that price. Read reviews!

Also check out the line prophets and prophet flite, the volkl kendo (little stiff), mantra, bridge.

If you weigh under 170 dont go crazy with stiffness/metal in the ski, or you wont be happy in the bumps.

The Harts are great in the bumps but would not do any better than the Volkls in the trees (I'm asuming that is what you mean by back country as you weren't talking about touring etc.). Pretty much all the skis mentioned above wuold work for you. It sounds like its going to be a one ski quiver so you need to decide what compromises you are wiling to make to maximize your fun. In addition to what's already been mentioned you could add the Line Sir Francis Bacon or one of the Moment models like the Tahoe or the Ruby to your list. All the ones I mentioned are very good in the trees and do a decent job in the bumps and ahve pretty good dge hold for the frontside as well. Do some research online reading reviews etc. and then come up with a list which you think meets your criteria and then demo them.

I just picked up a pair of liberty morphics for pretty cheap. From what I saw they got good reviews and with my one day of using em I loved them. I was going to but the fat ypus L Toros but after the day on morphics I changed my mind. Might be worth taking a look at.
