I was at Cannon, NH today. They had some signs up in the base lodge saying that the haul cable on the express quad will be replaced / re-spliced on the 14th and 15th. So obviously that chair won't be running those days, meaning the only way up the mountain will be the tram.

Seems pretty strange to be replacing the haul rope in the middle of the season...

Thanks for the heads up.

Better that they replace it while it's unsafe rather than wait until something awful happens. Just good to see a mountain spending the money they should instead of cheeping out and waiting til the end of the season.

They must be really having some problems with it to be replacing it in season.

It seems hard to believe that they'd be having such big problems that it would require in season replacement, while they're still able to run it up until the replacement.

My only guess would be that they're required to replace the haul rope by a certain date but failed to secure a splicer (I believe there is only a few in the country) this past off-season and had to wait until one was available.

Purely just speculation though...

On another note, I was skiing a Cannon last weekend and a regular told me that the natural snow season had been so good in December that the NH Dept (Parks/Recreation?) had taken back a good portion of the mountains snowmaking budget. No way to verify. I will say the day I was there, they were blowing snow.

I know they have been having issues with that lift this year. I have been stuck on it for 15+ minute stoppages 3 times and in line for another.

Slightly misleading press release in that it suggests that the Eaglecliff Chair and Tram will run. I suspect they mean "in addition to" regular service which would include Zoomer, Cannonball, Tuckerbrook, etc. and that these two additional lifts not normally scheduled will run in place of the Peabody Quad. Not really a major issue for Monday and Tuesday, especially since Eaglecliff and the Tram will run.

Anyone have any idea if the cable/chair will need to be load tested again post splice??? If that's the case, 2 days of down time might be a bit optomistic.
