Time for something different. I think if spirits or ghosts or whatever do exist, they must avoid me like the plague. I've never directly experienced any supernatural events, but I enjoy reading these tales. Let's use this thread to share any experiences you've had like this. One rule: the story must be of something that you've directly experienced. None of these "my uncle's friend's mother once saw..." type stories.

Who's first?

A house we used to have back in Arkansas was, I'm quite sure, haunted by the ghost of the crotchedy old woman who built it. She was a classic Southern lady- never went anywhere without white gloves, high heels, and such (to give a taste, one of her best friends late in life was my brother's godmother, who would mow her own lawn wearing high heels, gloves and a dress. She was a little loony, since she had more money than God but mowed her own lawn. Anyway...) The woman who owned our house previously demanded that everything must be just so, or else. She had a new roof put on, the story goes, and stood in the yard the entire time the roofers were there to make sure they picked up every scrap of shingle, every nail, every bit of anything. Anyway, several times the dishwasher would crank up in the middle of the night, even though my Mom had left it half full and didn't want to run it for that few dishes. We left to go on vacation once, and my dad left a packet of fish on top of the freezer, that he'd meant to bring with us (long story, there). Anyway, he remembered after we were a few hours down the road, but didn't want to turn around to get it. Two weeks later, when we got back, we fully expected the fish to be about as nasty as some fish could be. Nope. Right there, on top of the fridge, thawed out and gooey, but no stink. None. One of the weirdest things I ever saw.

My mother, who passed away almost 7 years ago now, had an identical twin sister (who is still living). Shortly after my mom's passing, I had to get rid of my car...I was my mom's primary care giver and the car just seemed to have her aura in it.

I traded the car in at the end of September, beginning of October. On Columbus Day, I took a ride to Lincoln RI. I hadn't been to any type of casino since my mom had passed away. Not long after I was there, I ran into my aunt (mom's twin) and my cousin. I hung around with them till about 8 and then said I had to get going. They said they were going to leave too. I said I would follow them home.

As we were walking to the door my cousin decided that she needed to use the bathroom. My Aunt told me to go along ahead because my cousin usually took a long time in the bathroom. I said Ok and left.

Just over the state line, there was a warm feeling in my car and the passenger seat seemed to have a slight glow to it. I immediately slowed down to the speed limit. I shook my head in disbelief, but the feeling did not go away.

All of a sudden I heard my mother's voice telling me to slow down and wait for my aunt and cousin and to follow them. Then I felt a hand on my shoulder and the blinker went on, the car changed lanes and the car slowed. When my aunt passed me about 10 minutes later I pulled in behind her and followed her.

In Millbury MA, on Route 146, there was a light. It was red when we came upon it so we stopped. They had no idea it was me behind them because they had never seen my new car. When the light turned green we pulled out from the light. I had no sooner cleared the intersection when this red z28 came flying from Route 122A (which now had a red light) and went into a skid, just barely missing my car and then skidded sideways in between our two cars and struck the back end of my aunt's car crushing it.

Somehow, this red car sped off, the wrong way on the highway and exited back off 122A. My Aunt could not release her seatbelt. I could not release it with my hands either. Fortunately, I had my Ski Patrol pack in my car and had my trauma sheers. I cut away the seatbelt. She had a deep mark where the belt had been and was gasping for air.

The doctors in the emergency room said that if that seatbelt had not been cut she probably would have died because the belt was cutting off her air supply.

Along a similar note, does anybody have any ghost stories from being in the mountains, like at an AMC hut? I've heard plenty of those, but never experienced one myself.

My hair stands on the back of my neck each time I think about it. I hesitate to tell people because I don't want them to think I am crazy or something. It was really kind of freaky. I had some problems for a while after that.

It's okay, teachski- we all think you're crazy, anyway. ;)

That is some story, though- I predict it'll be a bit of a thread-killer. Sure beats the pants off my dishwasher story.

When we lived in Freehold NJ - our house was built on an old battlefield...
All kinds of stuff used to happen... Lights would go on and off, we had an old spinning wheel that would be spinning without anyone near it and every once and a while our dogs would freak out and run out of our kitchen and hide under the couches for no reason..
One night I awoke and saw a hand hovering in the doorway - may have been a dream but still seems real 30 years later...

Other neighbors experienced the same stuff..

Wierd...

I can't even come close to beating TeachSki's story, but here's mine:

During my freshman year in college I obtained my first responder certification and joined the campus medical squad. When I went home for the summer, I joined the volunteer rescue squad in town. It took me a while to get the officially accepted by the membership, but on July 2 I picked up my pager from the director and anxiously awaited my first rescue call.

The next morning I went to work at my summer job at Pat's Farmstand Templeton, MA. (More on "Pat's" later). At 11:15 in the morning, a customer burst through the doors and frantically yelled to call 911 for a motorcycle accident in front of the store. As my boss dialed the phone I ran to the street to aid a man and a woman who had crashed into a parked car. My first call turned out to be a doozy. As we would later find out, the woman had broken her neck, never regained consciousness, and was pulled from life support.

A full week later, while slicing meat at the farmstand I happened to look up at the clock as I thought it was close to lunch. To everyone's suprise, we found the clock had stopped at 11:15! I initially shrugged it off as coincidence, but at 11:15 that night (now 7 days, 12 hours since the initial crash) my pager went off for a motorcycle accident in front of Pat's farmstand. We arrived to find a badly injured young man that had tried to elude police and mysteriously wiped out on the same spot in the road. Maybe it was all coincidence...

As for Pat's farmstand: The building was a former auto repair garage owned by Pat's father. From what I understand, one of his employees had been killed after a car fell on him. Every once in a while, things would happen around the store that made us swear we had another person working. After a busy rush of customers, we would find "someone" had restocked the corn, or that "someone" brought out an extra block of ham or cheese from the freezer, or "someone" went into the cooler to put more milk or eggs on the shelves. It didn't happen too often, maybe once per summer, but it was just little things that no one else could remember doing. I just thought I was losing it, but some of my co-workers believed that the old man would help us from time to time.

On August 30th, 2003 my sister visited my house and we wound up watching old super 8 family movies that included alot of film of my mother when she was healthy.

During the night I had a very vivid dream about having an argument with my sister about weather or not my mother was closer to 69 or 70 when she DIED.

The next morning, my wife woke me up to tell me that my mother had passed away during the night!!!!

I am not a real believer in the supernatural, but I think that my dream was my mothers way of saying goodbye
