I finally came into the 21st century and got an IPhone, but before that I was using an ITouch so I could get apps.

As you know, there are a gazillion apps, but what are your favorite ski apps? Which ones are good? Here are some of the ones I have been using:

For general ski information:
(sp
REI Ski App: It is a snow report app that you can select your favorite resorts and bookmark them so that you always get the (latest I guess) snow report, weather, and info. It features local weather forecasts, links to the resort's webcams, resort info, Twitter, and "1st hand reports." The downside being that some of the info is pretty stale from what I have seen and sometimes the lesser known places don't have updated trip reports. But it has a lot of lesser known places on it.

All Snow: Another general snow report app that pretty much gathers info from sources like SnoCountry and puts it there. I have had problems downloading it and keeping it up to date as you need to set up an account.

For East Coast:

Sunday River Replay: A free app that allows you to track your day (vert, speed, and laps). It also has some resort information on it. Looks interesting....

Sugarloaf Replay: Pretty much the same.....

I also saw that there are apps for Stowe and Mad River Valley, but they are more focused on helping folks find things in town rather than ski info.

For the West Coast:

I have downloaded a few that I used quite often and find very useful. Not surprising, the first is....

Snowbird: Yes, I know. No surprise. But it was my first app and the one I use the most. It has live webcams, Twitter and Facebook feeds, trail map and sattelite map of the terrain (the "Landmarks Map.") The latter map is awesome but small on an IPhone screen. It also has updated road conditions and other info. You can track your days on it and use it to interact with Facebook. I wish it had the grooming report on it though. It also directly links to Avalanche and NOAA reports (with a great radar loop on the main page). These last two links are so valuable and save time.

Jackson Hole: It is just revamped and is very similar to Snowbird's with live webcams, updated info on the mountain, condition reports, and trail reports. The thing that doesn't work well for me is when the app takes me to the resort page (like to buy tickets, etc) I can't open any of the links.

Squaw Valley: I just downloaded it and it is pretty slick. Pretty much the same as the above, but slicker looking.

Ski Utah: A collection of reports from the mountain and basically a mobile version of their site with deals and blog. It also allows you to count your days at each resort.

Deer Valley: The main page has the current weather and weather forecasts. It has lift open status, maps of each area (confusing...I'd rather have one big trail map as opposed to many different areas, but a nice way to zoom in on each area), Twitter, and Facebook links. For such a ritzy resort, it is the most basic app with the most basic information. No bells or whistles...

What others do you use?

In my mind, northern New England
North Face Snow Report - Similar features to REI ski report but with the ability to track days and make a season log. Also has an avalanche advisory

Colorado Snow Report - Weather, snowfall, trail and lift openings and other information for CO ski areas.

Liftopia - Grabbing deals on the run got easier.

Resort specific - Aside from those already mentioned, Whistler has an excellent app. Boyne Resorts has an app for info on all its resorts.

Boyne: cool. I will have to look at that one.

I just saw that someone has made an App for Smuggs and it looks decent.

The big surprise is that I do not see an app for Jay Peak. That is surprising considering how sophisticated their web presence is.

We're finally going to have a mobile app for our site too. We should be able to launch it right after the new site overhaul is complete (hopefully this week).

Best apps: Dialer, Camera

I find the smartest move on the slopes is to turn the damn thing off and ski

I also saw that there are some apps that have GPS/map features, but cost money. There's one for Alta.

I like the ones that give me the info to make the decision as to where to ski or what is going on at the mountain rather than the "track where you are" apps.

I find most ski apps out there to be pretty lame in general.

The REI Snow one is decent.

HowSteep is kindof cool.

Ski Report WAS awesome in years past, but now it sucks. It seems they are not posting many people's negative ski reports anymore, which can only lead me to believe that part of their business model must be in getting paid by mountains (it's the only thing I can think of). If there's no honesty to the reports, IMO, the app is useless.

iTrailMap is cool for downloading a bunch of trial maps to your phone for quick reference.

Ski Vermont seems to be dead this year. Used to be able to get deals and info on it etc... but it is no longer supported. I've left it on my phone in case they one day bring it back.

The REI is decent...but you get much more info just going to the mountains main website ski report.

I deleted it shortly after downloading it.

AlpineReplay or Phresheez - both use the gps on your phone to track your runs. They compile stats for distance, elevation, speed, etc. They have slightly different features, but AlpineReplay seems to have a better GUI.

Whatsapp - A group chat application. Everyone on a large ski trip used last weekend. It was great for telling everyone to meet up in a certain place, or alert good/bad conditions to friends on the mountain.

I use one called Ski Tracks. I have only used it twice but I like it. I think it was .99 from the itunes store.

Ski Tracks is pretty cool. It's $.99. I've used it for my last 5 or 6 days skiing. The data is pretty neat, a great way to mark a good tree line (not that we've had much of that this year), and fun to send back and forth with friends to see who can get the most vertical. I've attached some screen shots to show some of what it does. This was from Belleayre on 1/28.

Itrailmap3d. Has 3d maps of all ski areas that you can manipulate (zoom, rotate, move). Locates and tracks on the map. Absolutely great except that it sucks battery like all gps apps.

I'll have to check that one out. Somehow, ski tracks is actually pretty easy on the battery. Lasts all day with plenty of battery left. Not like motion x gps which is a huge battery hog.

I have several apps, but the only one I use on a regular basis is Ski Tracks. It has lots of great features if you are interested in tracking your day. Well worth the $0.99 over the free tracking apps.

I used to like Ski Report, but never use it anymore. It seems like there is just a bunch of useless posts on there most of the time. I don’t care if you think mountain A is better than mountain B. My reports never seem to get posted, I have no Idea way.

I mentioned Snowbird, and it turns out that an industry group has just rated Snowbird's app as the best for ski areas.

'Ski Report' - allows you to enter/save your favorite areas, gives you daily powder reports and local hills ... a tap on any resort will show you current conditions, weather, stats, maps, cams etc.

'Phresheez' is cool for tracking runs/speed/etc., but is a battery drain on my Droid
