Good Ski IPhone Apps

'Ski Report' - allows you to enter/save your favorite areas, gives you daily powder reports and local hills ... a tap on any resort will show you current conditions, weather, stats, maps, cams etc.

This used to be a great app in years past, because you could get first-hand reports of actual conditions. Now, IMO, it blows, because they edit out almost all of the negative reviews (which leads me to believe they're either worried about lawsuits or are being directly paid by the mountains) and allow the posting of almost any positive review.

the thing about first-hand reports is they are so biased ... just about every day I hear folks skiing the same terrain and having opposite opinions ... there are really only a couple of people whose opinions I trust, what is good for me is not necessarily good for someone else

This is true, but you used to get a LOT of opinions. Plus, if you read between the lines, you can often tell which reports come from knowledgeable skiers as opposed to the reports from the "2 days per year" crew. Nevertheless, this year it's incredibly obvious they're not allowing almost ANY negative reports.

Case in point, two reports I submitted last weekend:

I submitted a glowing report for Jay Peak on how surprised I was that the conditions were so fantastic all over the mountain, and that the woods were a dream - it posted.

I submitted a report for Smuggs describing how conditions are Sterling are pretty good, and better than Madonna, that steep terrain isnt holding snow well, and the woods were generally a bit icy - it didnt post.

Ski Tracks or AplineReplay? Still trying to decide.

Regarding the ESPN links...Waze is a neat mapping app. If you're on a long trip, having a passenger running the app would be helpful.

i love waze. great gps but if you have someone in the passenger seat you can get a lot of additional info.
