Hopefully, something will get worked out and Greek Peak will get the refinancing.

I heard in the past that the owner of Greek, tried originally to get a loan form the Tennessee bank (that was closed by the FDIC), to build an 18 hole golf course & hotel/lodge. But the Tennessee bank was not willing to finance the golf course hotel... but said they would finance an Indoor Waterpark Hotel/Lodge combination.

If Greek Peak were not open for skiing, I would have to ski at Elk Mountain in Northern PA, the next closest for me.

I've skied at Elk...I guess it's my favorite PA hill.

There is speculation that Big Al will find a way to get a loan... by pushing the fact that Greek Peak is one of Central New York States biggest employers and he already has US Senator Chuck Shummer fighting for him... the speculation is that some quasi-govt. entity will end up providing a low interest type loan.

I sure hope they find a way to stay open, I live exactly in between Elk and Greek, I like Elk, but, no tree skiing, limited lit trails for night skiing, and over double the season pass rate. I would also hate loosing the half price Whiteface tickets, and the new $29 mid-week Hunter tickets, with the Greek Peak season's pass. I question all the envelopment recently at Greek, Virgil NY a destination resort?...really? I like bashing Greek, but this may be a case of you don't know what you've got till it's gone. Good luck Al. What will be the fate of our payments for this years season pass if they are unable to open? It would be wise for Elk to offer GP season pass holders Elk's early season rate if Greek is unable to open.

The article states it has 1000 employees. What? A thousand employees? I don't think Holiday Vally has more than half that.

But NELSAP = free powder!
=)
And as slow as Greek's lifts are, you could probably get as many runs in a day. Supposedly they say they will open this season. FDIC is providing funds while restructuring is going on. I hope so, they have $600 of my hard earned money.

You can earn turns for free in lots of places. Once you lose a ski area, you'll never get a replacement thanks to environmental/zoning/etc regulations and startup costs. Revelstoke is the only new one I've heard of that's new. And that's in the "sticks", which may explain approvals.

Curious to see what happens, heard plenty of rumors, even that Jay may be interested, hey, Greek's already got a water park. Hopefully someone more interested in running a ski resort than an amusement park will bite.
