I saw an add from The Leitner-Poma Group in the latest issue of Ski Area Management that arrived at my house yesterday and this struck me as a pretty cool thing.

Grouse Mountain, which basically overlooks Vancouver, British Columbia, installed a wind turbine on their mountain this summer (nothing new or exciting there). What's really cool about this wind turbine is inside of the tower it's mounted on, just below the top where the turbine is mounted, is an observation deck/pod for roughly 30 people!

Granted from what I can read from their website, Grouse has a decent variety of the now becoming common non snow season activities too (lip zines, etc), so this will not only help in the energy generation standpoint, but also help draw folks to the mountain year round

This pic kinds of gives a view of what type of view folks could get on a clear day/evening from the tower

That's a great idea to get dual use out of the tower. People are getting more innovative with the green energy all the time. I was reading yesterday there are some companies working on putting wind turbines on top of cell phone towers (the vertical type of wind turbine rather than the fan blade type). Since there are thousands of cell phone towers, it could add up to quite a bit of power.

Looks like they are bunging jumping from the windmill blades too.Grouse needs to diversify.Being right off the ocean they don't always have good conditions.Drove by there a few times and it really is a beautifull spot.
