Resort or Ski Area: Gunstock

Conditions: Packed Powder, Frozen Grainular, Icy

Trip Report: Made it back to the home hill for New Years day and glad to see that they had the summit open (Gunsmoke). Since it was the only trail opened up from the top, needless to say it was skied off quickly. I do have to say, I need to commend the snow making crew, they were able to get top to bottom quickly, once temps allowed. All in all, a good day out on the hill, even if I only did ski a few runs as it was packed with people.

I was over there for a late XC ski, was pretty surprised to find the nordic center even open. conditions were pretty poor but it was good to ski for a couple of hours. there were a good # of cars coming off the mountain and the lights were on when I left. It is amazing how wet and un-frozen the ground is...the next several days of real cold will be good, hopefully the snow does not serve as a great insulator.

from the looks of it they are pounding the mountain with snow. Added with a little natural fluff, the home hill should be good. May have to bag a personal day later this week to get some great turns in!
