Should be a good move to be closer to the center of the Industry.

Hart Ski, the ski manufacturing company that made a name for itself by becoming the official freestyle provider for the U.S. Ski Team, announced Tuesday that it’s moving its operations from Wayzata to Ogden, Utah, a town in the heart of the country’s ski industry.

For the company’s CEO, Chris Farni, it didn’t make sense to drive across the country to sell skis, said Julie Farni, Chris’s sister and the company’s chief administrative officer.

“It logistically and financially doesn’t make as much sense to be in Minneapolis right now,” she said. “Not that we wouldn’t come back.”

The company, whose skis are sold by nine vendors in the United States, Canada and Australia, received a $25,000 business loan from the city of Ogden to help with expenses, such as opening a warehouse there.

The company’s Wayzata headquarters — merely a mailing address, Julie Farni said — didn’t have any employees, so no jobs will be lost as a result of the move. She added that she can’t say for sure whether Ogden will become the company’s official headquarters.

Ogden is centrally-located between ski resorts and hosts top names in the ski manufacturing industry, Julie Farni said.

“You can get to almost any ski resort in the Rocky Mountains within six to eight hours,” she said.

Regardless of the move, Julie Farni assured, “We’re not turning our back on Minnesota
