One of my neighbors was bored with the conditions and took the tour of the Haystack Club. You only have until 1/15/07 to pony up the $60,000 to join before the fee goes up (significantly he was told) and then look forward to $8,500 per year for your golfing and skiing privilages. When he asked about ski area expansion they were very non committal.

That's what it's all about. You have to do something to keep the daytripping riff-raff out. You do it with $$. You wouldn't expect captial improvements or challenging terrain would you??

That's no more money that you'd pay to be a member of an exclusive country club.

It is only excessive if you can't afford it.

Seriously. If I could afford it Id be all over it. One of my friends (well his family) at school owns a place at the Yellowstone Club. He refuses to ski anywhere else now as he said there will literally be 50 people on the hill when its crowded, and even then theres maybe 1 or 2 who are good enough to ski the real tough stuff. Sounds like a dream to me.

Folks are always talking up Ancient Marriner and Dream Catcher at the Yellow Stone Club, but my favorite is Elevator Shaft, it rules. I’m really glad my Aunt Buffy talked my Uncle Aldrich into buying a place there. It sure beats skiing with the hoi poloy.

Dunno if I would, but I'm still consider riff raff among this crowd. Figure I would get bored of the terrain and the scenery.

I hear you about skiing/riding on terrain all for yourself but I can still do that because I like the glades and bumps at other ski areas. Most of the time it seems like I have the trail to myself, part of the reason why I like them.

Believe you me its all a dream for this broke college student. I dont think I could ever truely get bored with an area or the scenery, especially if I have literally the entire mountain to myself whenever I want.

i like haystack, but problem is with haystack, there is no "real tough stuff." not that it matters much, most people that buy stakes in these types of country clubs are not the best skiers. and if they are the better skiers, they are still going to take day trips to places with real terrain. haystack is a really nice place, but it gets boring quick and they don't get the natural to really open the trees up. if i had the money to afford this type of deal, i would have already been looking into expensive condos at better mountains. but like i said, folks that can ski anything in the east are going to ski better mountains even if they can afford to pony up for a country club membership. let's keep it real here, haystack is not a ski area any more, it is a country club for skiers.

The Yellowstone Club, Warren Miller is a founding member BTW, was developed to keep the riff-raff away who come from places like the Haystack Club.....lol Big money doesn't work everytime as the YC has unsuccessfully sued at least twice that I can remember for lift access to the summit of Lone Peak. The YC has a very poor record as to their care of the environment. This is from the Bozman paper

"There have been problems at times. Blixseth(primary developer) and the U.S. Forest Service were involved in a lawsuit over the ownership of the top of Lone Peak, a case the Forest Service won. In 2004, the EPA fined The Yellowstone Club $1.8 million -- a record amount for the type of violation -- for water pollution related to golf course and ski slope construction".

Another interesting twist here in that Plum Creek, America's largest landowner as a timber company and the company trying to develope a huge tract of land around Moosehead Lake up in Maine, sold the YC the land(165,000 acres) they owned in the Gallitin National Forest.

As far as Haystack, the ski area, is concerned, the most exciting thing for me was when you got on the chair and you went over the top part of the access rd and they had rope netting below you so if you fell off you wouldn't land on someones car.

The Witches were fun. Lots of bumps, but you just know that at a private resort like this, they're gonna mow anything that starts to form via the limited skier traffic down...

That is of course unless one of the full fledge members goes upto the concierge demanding atleast 1 bump run. Then the concierge will call up the mtn ops folks who will more than likely seed a bump run over on the witches.

HayStack

Listed in local paper this week-HayStack has been put on hold. All monies are to be returned. They have not met their sales goals as of yet and lack of winter has hurt sales

If haystack ever had any real soul, it's officially gone.
